I’ve been using W3 Total Cache for a while, and I’ve noticed that the page cache doesn’t last very long, it’s almost as if it lasts around an hour.

I read at the bottom of the settings page for Page Cache that:

The?TTL?of page cache files is set via the “Expires header lifetime” field in the “HTML” section on?Browser Cache?Settings tab.

However, I have this set to 6 hours, and it doesn’t seem to have had any effect on how long the cache files live for?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Actually, I have just checked, turns out the page is still cached, but even with it cached it can take up to 2 seconds to load?

If you check the website, look for the response header of JPR-Cache when that is set and it says hit then it means that W3 Total Cache has found a cached page.

    Hello @fluxcoder

Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to assist you with this.

There are a lot of factors when it comes to loading the pages faster. Page Caching is naturally the start, however, there are a lot of other things, like the location of the server, the server resources, CDN (I can see you are using Cloud flare), if images are optimized, number of JS and CSS loading on that single page, etc.

Can you please share an example of the page you are referring to so I an test this and have you taken the mentioned factors into consideration?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply @vmarko

I wouldn’t be able to post a URL in a reply to you as this that would be public to all, if you navigate to the site linked in OP, some pages load lovely and fast from cache, but sometimes the it takes a long time, even when the page is cached.

If you were to go through the site, and have inspect element open on the Network tab, click on some links and look how long it takes the main document to load, sometimes it’s a few ms but other times it can take nearly 2 seconds even when the page is stored in cache.

We’re using Disk Enhanced at the moment due to how many pages we cache.

    Hello @fluxcoder

Thank you for your feedback. As I’ve mentioned before, this is also related to various external resources that may be loaded on that specific page. Like in your case, some resources from static.zdassets.com connect.facebook.ney static etc.
This includes google fonts GTM and others.
    Thanks!

I face a similar issue. I’ve enabled page cache (disk enhanced or memcached), and cache preload with 300 update interval and 50 pages per interval (while using a sitemap of all my pages, around 450 and leaving advanced options to default), so it should preload all my pages in under an hour, right? However, if I purge the page cache and leave the system overnight, the next day I can see using my browser (multiple browsers/machines tested, also cleaning local cache) that the pages are not preloaded. I also tried using wp-cli and UNIX cron, and that didn’t solve the issue either. Am I doing something wrong? I disabled browser cache for troubleshooting reasons. My site has no traffic as it isn’t published yet.
