Orders not automatically set to Complete when payment sucessful.

I just had an order come through in the Completed state after a successful Stripe charge. I did disable the New checkout experience earlier this morning, so that may have made an impact. I will continue to monitor orders and report back if disabling the New checkout experience has resolved this issue. I’d like to use the new checkout experience, so getting us back to where we were before Feb 9th would be ideal!

May I ask what’s the product type in the example mentioned above? Only digital products should be set to complete automatically by default. With normal products, the merchant is expected to change the status manually once they ship the order.

Could you also share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

It’s also worth checking if there are any fatal error logs from WooCommerce > Status > Logs and choosing from the drop-down menu the fatal-errors.log option.

Seems like something is not allowing Stripe to talk back to your site. Can you please try disabling any cache/security plugins temporarily? Please make sure to switch to test mode and use these cards only when simulating an order.

I see you have our LMS plugin active, is the product you’re selling a Sensei course?

No, the recent fails to complete are not tied to a Sensei course.

Did you see my mention of toggling off the New checkout experience? I did not make any other changes – including disabling any plug ins. I’ve had two orders made since toggling it off, and both automatically completed. These products sold on these orders were the same products that failed to complete yesterday when the New checkout experience was toggled on.

You are right that something is not allowing Stipe to talk back to our website. The order notes for all orders that did not auto complete were missing the Stripe charge complete note with the Charge ID. Today’s orders that did auto complete had the Stripe Charge Complete notes with the Charge ID as we would expect.

I don’t think a screen shot is necessary, given what I’ve described above, but if you need to see one I’ll share one of an order that didn’t auto complete and one from earlier today that did.

I have had a similar problem since Stripe updated the plugin a week ago. Digital orders which prior to Feb 9 automatically completed, since Feb 11 get stuck at processing. @marcolearning You mentioned “toggling off the New Checkout experience”. Can you tell me where I would access that toggle? I could find no reference to “New Checkout experience” in the Stripe settings.

Go to the Stripe settings page Woocommerce/Settings/Payments/Stripe Manage. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Advanced settings. However, if you haven’t toggled on the new experience, I’d guess it’s not toggled on – but check it out just in case.

Thank you for reaching back, with further details on this. As I understand, all orders are back to automatically completed, with Stripe as a payment method, after toggling off the New checkout experience. Regardless of the purchase being for Sensei courses. Correct?

How possible is it to try with a staging/clone version of your installation, with only WooCommerce and WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway plugins active, also, please?

You can clone your site to a staging environment and perform tests without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.

Thanks @marcolearning, for helping me find that Advanced setting panel.

@anastas10s the “Enable the updated checkout experience” was and still is toggled off.
The WooCommerce Stripe Gateway plugin updated to 7.1.0 and I started to have orders stuck at processing. I have now rolled back to 7.0.2. and am waiting for more digital orders.
I have a busy weekend, but early next week I should have time to create a staging site and do some tests with 7.1.0 and Woo.

I’d suggest performing a conflict test: https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/

To see if that makes a difference, you can use WP Staging to create a staging site, and leave it with a default theme like Storefront, as well as only WooCommerce and Stripe Payment Gateway installed, then create a test order to see what is the status of it.

If the issue is not present, you can reactivate the original theme, and the other plugins one at a time, and check again after each reactivation until you find the cause behind the issue.
