    Hi,

I keep running into a problem while setting up a blog page for my website.

When I use the traditional way to make a static page my front page, the “site” template always overrides the page I set as a static front page – even if I leave the template empty. I do get a blog index page, though.

So I tried another way to get the same effect by editing the site template to look like the front page and add a blog index on a seperate page using a query loop. The query loop shows my posts when editing the page, but not when viewed normally through the browser.

    So, two questions:

    1. If the traditional way of getting a static homepage is still the way to go – how do I get it to work?
    2. If the way I am using now is the way to go – how do I get the query loop to work?

Also: is there a way to switch to a different existing template in the page editor (i.e. from ‘page’ to ‘index’)?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,

    Paul

Edit: after some extra clicking I realised that the toggle “Inherit Query from Template” was on, and should be turned off.

This still leaves my other questions though: is this the right way?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @paulbrederveld,

Since Bj?rk includes the “Front Page” template, the contents of that template will override the page you set as “Homepage:” on Settings → Reading.

You can still set a separate blog page in the Reading settings, though. Do the following:

    1. Go to Settings → Reading.
    2. Set “Your homepage displays” to “A static page (select below)”.
    3. Set “Posts page:” to the page you want to use as the blog archive, and set the “Homepage:” to literally any page. You can set it to the same page as the “Posts page:”, even though you’ll get a notice when you do. It can’t be left empty – if you do leave it empty, this won’t work.
    4. Update the Reading settings, and your front page should show the contents of the “Front Page” template in the Site Editor, and the blog page should show up on the page you selected in step 3.

There’s been a lot of discussions around streamlining this for the new block theme reality. For now, the steps above should get you there. Let me know!

    Hi Anders,

Thanks for your answer! I’ll check this out. I thought it might be something like this – just the newness of the site editor and its possibilities.

    Kind regards,

    Paul
