I’m working on a client’s site and have installed a new theme and want to regenerate just the featured images. I also use the EWWW image optimization plugin which optimizes the thumbnails automatically after regeneration.

That works fine when regenerating/optimizing via the Media Library.

However, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way of searching and displaying the featured images from within the Media Library so that they can be selected and regenerated.

“Regenerate Thumbnails” has the option of regenerating the Featured Images with a click… But as my client’s site has many thousands of featured images, I’m pretty certain that regenerating and optimizing thousands of images at once will run into “out of memory” problems.

Is there some way of batch regenerating featured images?
Is there some way of searching for and displaying the featured images in the Media Library?

    Thanks!

    Hi there, @kendawes,

This should not happen, though I see where your client and your concern may come from.

We recommend keeping the screen open until it is complete, and you should be all set.

To stay on the safe side, we suggest running a full backup of your site before starting the Regenerate Thumbnail process ??

Is there some way of batch regenerating featured images?

The system already runs in batches, but it’s not possible to do only featured images, as it batches the images from the front end.

Nope, you can’t do that. You can select different types of media from the Media Library, but there is no way to display featured images only — see the screenshot in the link below:

You may find a third-party plugin that does that in the www.ads-software.com plugin repository.

    Hope that answers your questions!
