• The old version of this plugin worked great right out of the box. I particularly liked its CSS formatting options for broken or removed links, and the link replacement searching of the Internet Archive. The new version, alas, requires you to register an account w/ WPMU, give it admin access to your site, and all your links will be parsed on their “cloud platform.” Sigh. No thanks. Pitty, as before that this was probably the best link checker available.

    Hi @bhammondcvl

    Thank you for the feedback.

The Cloud method brings more benefits to the plugin, Broken Link checker’s old engine had some limitations in terms of which link the plugin could find, for example, some HTML widgets or links created by JS on the fly were not covered, now as the plugin scan the page content using this different method bring you more accurate feedback of broken links, it also gives us the opportunity to improve and decrease the false positive reports as now it uses a fixed IP and UA which can be used to be allowed on providers like Cloudflare.

We do understand the connection method for some people isn’t the best solution, but for this reason, we keep the old engine available so you can switch to it in the plugin settings and give it a try in the new engine in the future.

About the CSS, this sounds like a good feature to bring back, the recent release is just the initial release of this new engine which will keep receiving updates.

I hope you give it a try and in the future, we can convert this into a 5-start experience.

    Best Regards
    Patrick Freitas
