Just to clarify, do you mean that after changing the slug from “teddy-bear-blue-001-2 ” to “teddy-bear-blue-001”, when visiting the URL teddy-bear-blue-001-2, a 301 redirect is automatically created to the new URL?

If so, kindly note that it is the default behavior of WordPress, to automatically create a 301 redirect when you change the slug of a product. This is because the URL of a product is used to identify it and changing the slug would result in a new URL, which would make any existing links to the old URL invalid.

This also helps maintain your site’s SEO and prevents broken links.

This being said, there is no need to worry about creating a loop. When you manually create a redirect, you would need to be careful not to create a redirect loop, but in this case, WordPress takes care of it for you automatically.

On the other hand, if I misinterpret your concern in any way, please could you provide additional clarity on what you are experiencing. If possible, please provide screenshots of your scenario.

I believe that’s the case for normal posts and pages as well, they will be redirected automatically.

If you’ve manually added a “redirecting” solution then yes you can remove it as this is it will be taken care of by default.
