    Hi lovely team!
I’m just wondering if there are any updates for the security suggestions mentioned on digwp.com about the right and secure way for installing WordPress. Between the most important ones for me, there is the idea of installing WordPress in a separate folder (with a private name), but now, with the new Network feature in WordPress 3.0, this is just impossible. You cannot create a network in the following cases:
? “WordPress address (URL)” is different from “Site address (URL)”.
? “WordPress address (URL)” uses a port number other than ‘:80’, ‘:443’.
So if there are any suggestions about this issue, plzzzzz be sure that it would be so helpful for a lot of folks ??
    Thank you!
    Badr

“WordPress address (URL)” is different from “Site address (URL)”.

This is a known issue, and has been struggled through with the smartest people I know. It just doesn’t work right.

WordPress address (URL)” uses a port number other than ‘:80’, ‘:443’.

MultiSite can’t run with a port number in the URL, IIRC.

So … no, no workarounds at this time :/

IMO, not being able to install it in a different folder than the one you run it from is lower risk on the security ladder. Yes, standard installs might make it 5% easier for a hacker… but this is not usually the weak point.

Thanks for the tips, I will then install it in the root folder waiting for later updates and maybe some possible fixes in upcoming releases of WordPress.

While the port number may eventually be included the part where having wordpress in one folder and running from another will never be “fixed”. It fundamentally breaks how the blogs are formed.

    Thank you!
Could you please tell me about an article or collection of articles that debates the main idea of securing a WordPress installation?
