Hi I have a simple question. I am migrating my website from one host to another. Here step 3 method 2 is:

    2. OR, download the backup set from your source site (or from your Dropbox, or wherever you stored it), and upload into the ‘Existing Backups’ tab on your destination site.

It also says in the introduction of the linked page to turn off CDNs/proxies/caching and minifying plugins prior to migration.

I assume if you use method 2 as described above you don’t need to turn anything off since the backup happens from within WordPress setup and the restore as well. Is this correct?

    Thanks!
    Josh

    Hi,

We suggest to temporarily deactivate caching before creating a backup so it does not get automatically activated after restore. Then before running the restoration so it does not cause conflict, you need to deactivate it again.

    Thanks Bryle.

Out of curiosity what would happen if the caching plugin was automatically activated after restore to the new host?

Also here nothing is mentioned about turning off caching. How is moving from one host to another with the same domain any different from a regular backup/restore?

And lastly you say before running the restore you need to deactivate the caching plugins; if you are moving to a new host the WordPress install will be empty so you cannot do this. Am I missing something?

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

This is just to avoid any issues during migration. Some users forget to turn off but still able to migrate successfully.

If using the same domain but just moving host, it is the same with the restoration process.

That is correct. However, some host has caching features so check on that.

    Thanks,
    Bryle
