• I have a really odd error on one of my sites, since I upgraded to PHP 8.0 (although it was quirky before on 7.4) – I can’t now FSE ‘Site Edit’ at all on a Gutenberg block child theme – a child of TwentyTwentyThree. All that happens is I go to the page with the sidebar but it’s blank, it doesn’t jump into the editor.

It does this even if I disable all plugins, if I change theme to the stock TwentyTwentyThree it still does this, even if I remove and re-add the theme. I have the theme locally, so I tried Create Block Theme and do a new export…still doesn’t work.

As you can see from the link, the theme has gone a bit nuts, with the navigation gone all screwy – that was a frequent thing for a while on the old theme, I got a lot of the ‘navigation permission errors’ as well.

The weird thing is – on the same server, with all the same settings, same PHP – I have two other FSE Gutenberg child sites, also children of TwentyTwentyThree which work perfectly fine. They edit and haven’t screwed up.

I really don’t know what is different bar some custom PHP which is disabled with the plugins…any idea?

Also I did look for a specific FSE support forum, couldn’t find one, apologies if this is the wrong place….

Oh and I completely reinstalled WordPress as well removing all but the wp-content folders.Again, no dice.

Turning on debug display I do get this though:

Deprecated: Function has_cap was called with an argument that is?deprecated?since version 2.0.0! Usage of user levels is deprecated. Use capabilities instead.??in?mutantpop/artists/wp-includes/functions.php?on line?5697

Hi @timbearcub from what you have described it does seem like this is something that is specific to this site. I am not quite sure what might be causing this but I can try to help you narrow it down. Are you able to take a screenshot and share what you are seeing in the site editor? You can add the screenshot to https://snipboard.io/ you will be provided a link which you can share here.

It does this even if I disable all plugins, if I change theme to the stock TwentyTwentyThree it still does this, even if I remove and re-add the theme. I have the theme locally, so I tried Create Block Theme and do a new export…still doesn’t work.

Are you able to temporarily change to another block theme like Twenty Twenty-Two to see if this could be related to the TT3 theme and its clones?

Additionally, when I check your site I don’t see anything amiss except for the video on the header which is returning an error, is this what you are referring to? The menu looks ok and it seems to be functioning as expected. I took a screenshot which you can see here.

Do you get this error when the site is using the TT3 theme parent theme + all plugins are deactivated?
