[Plugin: XML Sitemap Feed] Error loading stylesheet

Hi,

Somehow, your site returns a 404 error page when the sitemap stylesheet in https://alboran.com/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/sitemap.xsl.php is requested. Are you sure the file sitemap.xsl.php is in place?

The funny thing I notice is that when requestion the core plugin file directly on https://successfulebaybusiness.com/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/xml-sitemap.php I should get a PHP error (about an unknown function) but instead I see that 404 error page again but when I request one of the included images like https://successfulebaybusiness.com/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/sitemapxml.gif there is no problem… I have no idea what could cause this. Do you have any custom .htaccess rules that block direct php file requests?

Anyway, to ease your worries, the sitemap itself is generated just fine and search engines will use it to index your site. It is just the stylesheet that is somehow prevented from loading so normal visitors will not be able to read the sitemap in a ‘nice’ visual layout. This is just a little extra cream on the cake and not necessary indexing for search engines at all.

ERRATUM: The link https://alboran.com/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/sitemap.xsl.php shows a working sitemap stylesheet while yours on https://successfulebaybusiness.com/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/sitemap.xsl.php responds with the 404.

Thank you for your replies – I checked the server and the files are in the right place but as you said we humans can not see them! *LOL*

I checked the .htaccess file – there was just the wordpress rules in it but I did use another .htaccess from another site that I have that has a working sitemap just to test and that still did not allow me to view it.

I am going to give the sitemap to G webmasters and it it does not complain I will be most happy and mark this ticket as solved.

Yes, G ignores the stylesheet whether it is there or not. Other search engines will do the same.

However, I’m still curious why (for example) https://4visions.nl/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/xml-sitemap.php will access the plugins main PHP file directly (resulting in a predictable error) while on your site https://successfulebaybusiness.com/wp-content/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/xml-sitemap.php returns a 404 error as if that file does not exist at all…
