    Hello Team,

    Hope you are well.

I had a question. I am not sure how to phrase it so I will just direct you to our homepage. If you access the website via desktop you will see on the top (below the main menu) a banner that we have added for submissions. It is a decent size. However if you go to the mobile version of the website, the dimensions lower by quite a bit and it becomes very difficult to read. What can I do to achieve some sort of proportionality?

Also is there a way that when someone clicks on an ad, that a new tab is opened rather than the same tab being used?

    Warm regards,

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi hbk747,

Thanks for the precise description of your problem. The only chance to make the banner better readable on smaller devices is, in my eyes, to create a second banner with another dimension (e.g., a 300x250px rectangle ad) or with less information and a bigger font size.

I would add both versions of this banner to one ad group and apply this ad group to this Before Content placement you currently use. I recommend adding the “Device” visitor condition to both ads to ensure that users with smaller devices see the alternative banner version. Then, you can determine if those banners should appear on desktop, tablet, and/or mobile devices.

Also is there a way that when someone clicks on an ad, that a new tab is opened rather than the same tab being used?

You can configure in Advanced Ads > Settings > General that all your ad links should open in a new window. This option does mainly affect the image ad type. If you enable the Tracking add-on, you can make different settings for individual ads. Suppose you chose the “Plain text and code” or the “Rich content” ad type; you can add the target="blank" manually to your ad code.

We explain more details and examples of opening ads in new tabs in this manual.

    Best regards,

    Hello.

    Thanks for your reply.

I was wondering if I need the paid version to do what you said above.

I was making an ad group and it only gives me two options – one random and one ad weight. Will it work if I choose any of these or I cannot for the free version?

    Hi,

I was wondering if I need the paid version to do what you said above.

You can do that with the free version that contains the Device condition. If you use any caching on your website, you should use the Cache Busting of Advanced Ads Pro to ensure that none of the ads get cached. The Tracking add-on gives you more flexibility, but you can also manually manage opening ads in a new tab, as described above.

Yes, the random mode is perfect for this job. Here, you can find a detailed explanation of the different options for ad rotations in Advanced Ads.

    Thank you.

Yes it did work. I checked on both desktop and mobile and the sizes were different, however after a while, on the mobile the ad switched back to the desktop version. Perhaps its the caching issue or something. Is there no other way to resolve than besides the cache busting which only comes with the paid version?

Also if I get the paid version, do I need both plugins, the normal one and the pro one on my website or the pro will be the only one required?

    Hi,

Great that this works. If you use dynamic visitor conditions or ad rotations on a cached website, you will need to either disabling the caching or enabling the cache busting. Here is an easy-to-read background story of the relation between ads and caching.

Also if I get the paid version, do I need both plugins, the normal one and the pro one on my website or the pro will be the only one required?

All add-ons of Advanced Ads including Advanced Ads Pro are built on the free version and extend its functions. The idea is to keep the plugin structure as modular as possible and to avoid that you install code that you don’t need in your setup.

Thanks for your patience and help.

I was using ordered ads in the group, now changed it to random as you suggested. Since I have 2 ads in the ad group, should both their ad weights be set to 1?

Edit: And the visibility option will be set to 2?

    Hi hbk747,

The ad weights in the random group mode define the relation in which Advanced Ads show the ads. If you have two ads in this group, there won’t be any difference between 1/1 and 10/10, as long as both values are equal. I

Suppose your traffic is significantly driven by one device type, e.g., mobile. In that case, you can achieve a performance improvement on a micro level if the ad weights take this ratio into account and you then play out, e.g., 80% mobile and 20% desktop. With such clear ratios, you could also use an ordered ad group and define a higher ad weight for the most requested ad.

We explain the differences between both modes in our ad group manual in detail.

    Best regards,

    Joachim
