Hi, I have several WordPress powered sites and I tend to use Google Chrome as my browser of choice. Recently, one of them has been crashing BUT ONLY IN GOOGLE CHROME. If you view the generated site, everything behaves perfectly well, but if you visit the admin site then (using Windows Task Manager) you see the Chrome app increasing in Memory usage and eventually you get a page not responsive error and then almost immediately afterward an Aw Snap error! All other sites are fine. I then tried the same in Firefox and it all worked well. For the avoidance of doubt – there was NO MEMORY issue with Firefox.

So, I used the Health Check and Troubleshoot plugin to go into Troubleshoot mode and I disabled all plugins. I then re-enabled them one by one and it was Query Monitor being enabled that caused Chrome to crash. I have now remove Query Monitor and the site works as expected.

I have no idea what it was doing or what was causing the issue but report it for users to be aware and for the developers to review.

If anyone has any tips and tricks though, then please let me know.

    Many thanks

Thanks for the report. The only other time I’ve seen this, it turned out to be caused by JavaScript in the theme that was trying to apply sorting or styling to the tables in the output from Query Monitor. Can you try switching to a different theme, such as one of the default “Twenty” themes, and see if that fixes the issue?

If not, I would try running Chrome without any extensions to see if one is interfering.

Hi there and thanks for the reply. As I stated, I had removed QM so to try what you say would require me to clone my site, change theme, re add the plugin and then do testing.

Right now, I don’t have any spare time to do that but I will put it on my list to see if I can get a window.

I should say though that I could launch QM from the site and it was using the bottom half (ish) of the admin screen for its display. Is this what you expect?

Yes the QM panel uses around half the screen by default (you can resize it).

Let me know how you get on testing the theme.
