We maintain hundreds of websites. We installed Site Kit on all of them, for the old plugin we used for analytics decided not to integrate support for GA4. Site Kit made the best sense.

However, after a few days or weeks, our sites will disconnect from Site Kit, and we are asked to redo the setup. This holds true regardless of theme, hosting server, plugins, or any other normal troubleshooting point we can think of. It happens to all of our sites.

The exact message is: “Unable to receive access token because of an invalid authorization code or refresh token.” We hit the button “Redo plugin setup” and everything is fine…until some time later when the message pops up again.

    Thank you in advance.

Thanks for reaching out @bobmcphe, and sorry to hear of your issues running into errors. What I suspect may be happening, based on your description, is you’ve reached the 100 site OAuth limit, as per the below guide:
    https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/getting-started/install/#multiple-sites

This limit is for 100 active connections, meaning it’s normal if you connect any sites any site number 100 for the longest connected site to become disconnected, and so on.

Another possibility, although less likely based on your troubleshooting, is that a common plugin or hosting feature is changing your WordPress SALT keys, thereby impacting your Site Kit connection.

So we can determine more on this, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information for one of these impacted sites. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.?
    2. When you encounter this error, is it periodically (such as daily or weekly) on all sites, or is it more sporadic? ?
    3. When you click on the “Manage sites” option within the Site Kit dashboard, what is the total number of connected sites you see?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
