• Our charity have used QEM for several years very happily but recently we have been getting multiple cases of duplicate bookings. We take bookings for boat trips and the people booking are often of retirement age and may not be very computer or internet literate.

We think part of the problem is the fact that when customers book, the ‘thank you’ message only flashes on the screen for a few seconds which is too fast to read before the screen goes to PayPal.

We think that this causes confusion because customers think that they are being asked to pay before they have had a proper chance to read the ‘thank you’ screen which confirms that they have successfully booked. Customers therefore repeat the booking.

Is it possible to either pause the ‘thank you’ message for longer so it can be read? Or, ideally, can the ‘thank you’ message be displayed until such time as the customer clicks either a button to “proceed to payment” or else an alternative button to “pay using a voucher”?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Just wondered whether you have had any thoughts to add about this problem.

    Thanks

I do recall looking at it but not convinced.
I just re-tested ( 22 Oct – made it obvious so you can delete )

Have you had actual feed back that people got confused that by making a paypal payment they thought they hadn’t booked. It doesn’t seem logical but maybe I’m misunderstanding the issue.

In terms of changes the free product is a mature product and changes are limited to those necessary to keep it functional.

Your two suggestions, pause or have an extra button would require functional code changes.

Ah now I actually get it -you are trying to do something it is not designed for

If you have vouchers please complete this form, click “Book Here” below but don’t complete payment. Then, email us at

So then asking them to click on Pay by Pay pal and then ignore it – I can see why they would be confused

What you should use is the setting ‘Pay Later’ and change the words to suit vouchers. This option means they will not go to PayPal and change the button from Register and Pay to Register when ticked

    Thanks Alan,
We’ve tried setting as you suggested “register without payment” and nothing has changed on the registration customer page. But there is another line in our email and the customer’s email saying “Pay by Voucher”.
We’ve checked this hint “the transfer to paypal option is enabled on the Payments Page.”
We assume that when we click to book an event, the next registration page should give us the ‘pay by voucher’ tick box option. We’ve also tried it on another test site cloned from the main one and on another site with a new download of QEM.
With your tick boxes, when a customer then clicks ‘pay by voucher’, will it then bypass going to paypal?
We’ve attached full screenshots of Registration, payment?and?event?tab.
Many thanks for your time, its most appreciated.

I checked, you wouldnt really guess this, but having a blank ‘Cost’ field tells the plugin that no payment is required – Even if you have multi tickets

So in ‘Cost’ you can put anything

‘Pay by PayPal of Voucher’ it doesnt matter as long as it isnt blank

    Thread Starter rockingh

    (@rockingh)

We assume you mean removing the cost from the Edit event / Cost per ticket and putting in text? After clicking the event it just asks “places required” It does then say “You are now booked” but nowhere is there an option for clicking voucher etc. as in your previous register graphic above?
What we need is a registration form much as your graphic above with voucher tick box and if not ticked goes to paypal for the £20 per person.
    Are we missing something silly?
    Thanks

i mean put anything but blank in cost

    leave everything else

Hi Alan, Thats much closer thanks a lot.
When we insert text into cost section it then says “Cost per Person” in booking first page. Look at last entry here https://floatourboat.co.uk/book-trips/ which you can try at will.
So we have put the entry as £20. Which is okay but not perfect.
Then click to book shows the pay by voucher box perfectly. Payments go through ok as normal but if you click pay by voucher the text changes. We changed that text to “Click here to book”. When you click it stays on same booking page.
We don’t quite understand, can you enlighten us?

    Many Thanks

The ‘display’ of the cost field is controlled by seeting – simplest if you just untick the display ( both for the detail and the list ) rather than try to over think wording that works

    Plugin Author Alan Fuller

    (@alanfuller)

In terms of staying on teh page – it is actually making teh booking but doesnt do any ‘thank you’ that is an issue.

I’ll see if I can think of a work around

    Plugin Author Alan Fuller

    (@alanfuller)

To make the thank you actually work on ‘pay later’ I need to make a small change and test that

    Plugin Author Alan Fuller

    (@alanfuller)

Just release a fix in version 9.8.5.5 – the pay later ( voucher ) shoudl now properly display the registered + the instruction

    Many, many thanks Alan.

Thats sorted that out and it works well. But, (theres always a but).
We noticed something else which we have just realised and we think its been there a long while and has caused overbooking previously.
If a person books 2 places then their friends want to come as well and the first person books 2 more places with the same email address it overwrites the first booking. So, they’ve received 2 booking emails for 4 places but our registration page only shows 2 which obviously causes embarrassment on the day. And the places available shows the lower number.
We’ve tried unticking “Allow a person to register more than once for each event ( note: if someone registers for a paid event but fails to complete payment they will still be able to re-register to complete payment).” but it doesn’t seem to help?
Have we missed something else, sorry to overload you with questions. If you’d rather we can start another ticket?

    Plugin Author Alan Fuller

    (@alanfuller)

Thanks, just for clarity, this is not a ticket, this is a support forum thread. Tickets are raised for paying customers on my website.

Support if the free version here on the forums is totally voluntary and I’m happy to provide free support when I have time.

Regarding booking with the same email, it does create a separate registration, so you should have two lines with 2 bookings.

That said, I will test using your settings you screen shot above and see if I can recreate the issue you are seeing.
