Hi there @amart7,
If you’re looking to migrate from using Site Kit’s placed Analytics snippet to using Tag Manager to insert your Analytics snippet, you can do so by following the steps below:
- Ensure that you have both a GA4 tag and a Universal Analytics tag added to the Tag Manager container you have connected within Site Kit. This needs to be done from tagmanager.google.com, with both the UA and GA4 Analytics tags live and published.
- Revisit your Tag Manager settings within Site Kit (Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Tag Manager) and ensure that you have connected the correct Tag Manager container. You’ll notice that there is a mention that a Universal Analytics account found, and a mention that Site Kit will use your Tag Manager connected Analytics account (screenshot). Ensure also that you have selected the option for Site Kit to insert your Tag Manager snippet.
- Revisit your Analytics settings (Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Google Analytics). You need to then ensure that you have selected the option for Site Kit not to insert your Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 snippets. I’ve highlighted these in this screenshot. Please also ensure that you have connected the correct Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 containers (The same that you have connected within Tag Manager).
- After you’re done, you can check to ensure tracking is working as expected by performing a check using tagassistant.google.com.
I’m also happy to check your setup if you would like to share your site URL. Note also that you won’t see your Analytics snippets directly in your sites source code if you have them placed via Tag Manager. The tagassistant service mentioned above will confirm that tracking is working as expected however.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
