Is it possible for Defender Pro to check whether before or after installing a Plugin, it contains viruses or modified source code?

    Hi @thiagorangel

    Hope you are doing fine!

Currently, Defender can scan a plugin/ theme folder once it has been installed, the scan process has to be started manually or you can set a schedule for the scans to start.

There is a feature request to implement the automatic scan while plugins/themes are installed, but it is still under evaluation since several aspects have to be considered (server resources and permissions, compatibility with existing features, etc.)

There is not a ETA to implement this feature yet, but I’ll let the development team know that there is another vote for this request.

    Kind regards

    Luis

Hello! So is it possible to do a manual check? Which step by step to verify a Plugin manually? Does it point out viruses and modification to the original source code?

    Hi @thiagorangel

You can run the scan for the whole site by going to Defender > Malware Scanning > And click on New Scan. If any plugin/theme/core file is detected to have any suspicious code, it will show in the Malware report, the difference from the original files is displayed, and you can trigger the action to restore them.

For more info, please check this post in our blog where it explains the scan process and how any malicious code is reported:

    Hope this information is useful

    Kind regards
