• Greetings,
I ask you to make sure that after the update the site works without problems.

The child theme based on version 2.1.2 created at the time is completely destroyed, selecting the updated source theme the look is slightly better, but some menus completely disappeared, everything seems to be put randomly on the page and all the pages that were created with Elementor are now completely empty.

I haven’t made any particular changes to the child theme’s CSS, I’ve tried disabling third-party plugins but nothing.

Really a bad impression and consequently you do it with the users of your site.

The cache and the advice given have nothing to do with it, now I have restored a backup to avoid other bad impressions.

The site is fantasvaimec.it (now restored to the previous version), “do you see something” that could cause total destruction with the update?

Please solve these very serious problems immediately otherwise the next few days will be dedicated to me to modify the theme of the site despite the fact that I appreciate ColorMag

    Thank you

  • Hi @mominet,

    Thanks for reaching us,

Can you share the screenshots showing the problems and the link to the page where you’re seeing the issue so that it would be easier from our end to check and provide an appropriate solution?

Good morning and I apologize for the tone but it is really frustrating to be faced with this situation.

The Child themed site looks like this:
    FS1IMG

The only substantial change in the functions.php file is a string to hide the Colormag menu bar to “replace” it with Max Mega Menu and two mu-plugins for WP Customer Area functions, then only changes to the standard theme options (colors, sidebars….).

If I update the theme and that’s it, this happens:
    FS2IMG

If I switch to the updated Colormag theme from the previous Child the look improves a bit, but:

    1) the pages made with Elementor now seem to have a random layout and not as they were previously set and have “lost” the responsive settings:
-this is how it looked: FSELE1IMG
-this how it looks: FSELE2IMG (among other things when I try to re-edit them with Elementor this sees them correctly and handles them correctly, then they are displayed by the theme in that wrong way)
-this is the responsive behavior I was talking about: FSELERES1

    2) WP Customer Area pages that looked like this before the update:
    FSWPCA1
they no longer work, when I try to open the page the page freezes and if I block the execution it looks like this:
    FSWPCA2
This is an absolutely essential function for my site since the game takes place with the functions of the private areas.

    3) The MaxMegaMenu no longer spans full width and is no longer stickly

    4) Obviously I lose and I should go and review all the standard settings on colors and miscellaneous made after the creation of the child theme a long time ago wasting a lot of time and not being sure that something can even escape

And these are the biggest problems encountered in a few minutes, I’m afraid there are many others Honestly that could slowly emerge as well as “questionable” choices such as the microscopic font size on Desktop which makes it difficult to read the text and others little things.

I did all these tests by switching to the main theme (therefore there is no customization, nothing at all) and eliminating the two WPCA mu-plugins, but the problems caused by the theme still do not change.

It’s not a threat, I really like Colormag and it’s right for me, but I’m seriously thinking about changing the theme because here it would almost be a question of “rebuilding” the site based on what is a new theme in all respects and not an update, at this point one chooses another more “simple” and “less blocked” ??

I really hope you have solutions or maybe even thinking about releasing a “different” update for those who really would have the site unusable after this update.

    Thank you

The thing I don’t understand is that you say that only the changes to the child theme would be lost, but I really didn’t change anything except hide the Colormag menu display to make room for MMM, but the site breaks completely.

Even getting rid of that one built-in CSS.

And then the serious technical problems such as the layouts created with Elementor and the WP Customer Area pages, how can you explain them?
I haven’t made any hard changes to these things.

I really hope you have a solution or that in any case all the sites that have become unusable make you rethink a different approach to updating, even perhaps taking a step back.

Because at the moment the solutions appear 2:
    1) Never update again
    2) Change theme

Just out of curiosity, I tried on the fly to change the theme to another one:
apart from the graphics, all the functions, pages, menus and all the rest (including Elementor, WP Customer Area and MMM) work perfectly and are displayed correctly, so unfortunately “the problem” is precisely in the new Colormag theme, which I repeat “it’s a new imposed theme” and not an update

    Thread Starter mominet

    (@mominet)

    I tried a new approach:

before upgrading I switched to the parent theme (therefore also losing all the background, layout, color options … etc … which will have to be reviewed), at this point everything still works,
then I deactivated MMM, WPCA and Elementor (which at the moment appear to be the biggest problems), and obviously there are no more functions related to these plugins but everything still appears at least aligned and not destroyed.
At this point I would have the pure parent theme, without any changes and nothing at all.
Disabled Cache Plugins, cleared the cache from the provider and at this point I updated.

In doing so the graphic aspect of the Home is not destroyed but it is still changed even with the addition of sections that weren’t there before, even some Tablepress tables in the pages created with Elementor are no longer displayed well and the layouts begin to appear randomly “strange”.

Reactivating the plugins all the problems highlighted before return, making the site unusable.

So this is proof that the problems are not custom strings and any third-party plugins, but just the theme that approaches it in the wrong way.

I await possible solutions hoping that there are even if the best thing would be to admit when you have taken the longest step of the leg, take a step back and think again about this which in reality is a new theme that does not update and adapts the previous one, but substantially changes its behavior in all respects

    The site is fantasvaimec.it
I’ll leave it online for a while like this, but soon I’ll still have to restore a backup so as not to make a bad impression on the users

    (@mominet)

I also add that Tablepress which has simple custom CSS in its settings…this doesn’t work anymore.

I’m stopping because I fear that the more I go on the more problems are found, so I hope you take some steps back because the site cannot be completely re-adapted since so many plugins no longer work

    Hi @mominet,

In-order to discuss further more on the issue, I would like you to request to contact us via the live chat support here: https://themegrill.com/colormag-pricing/ so that we can address each of your issue and fix them asap.

Please mention this conversation while contacting us in the live chat.

I wrote to live support..let’s see what we get.

The point is that as I said personally I had only one CSS customization in the child theme and even if I remove it before the update then the site is totally destroyed.

Even switching on the parent theme (and therefore losing all the settings in the standard options) then updating all the pages in Elementor, small CSS ti Tablepress and WP Customer Area no longer work, as if the new Colormag “covered” everything else making it unusable (or in any case forcing a complete review of the whole site) third-party plugins, including customisations of Elementor on fonts, margins, spacing …

Honestly, there are also reflections to make:
it has always been recommended by EVERYONE to use the child theme precisely to avoid upheaval and great damage, now you seem to advise against using the child theme…who assures us that our sites won’t be destroyed again in a next update?
A reliable theme should give a certain continuity, instead these days speaking also with colleagues the most common argument among those who use Colormag for some sites is which alternative theme to use.

Even if I wanted to rebuild the whole layout again, the new theme also interrupted the functionality of some third-party plugins, the most important of all for me being WP Customer Area which basically no longer works.

Now my site is online with a rollback to before the update:
    fantasvaimec.it

Can you take a look and understand what could cause the total destruction of the site since as far as I’m concerned I haven’t made any major changes to the Child theme?

    Thank you

    (@mominet)

    I repeat:
the most serious thing is that even by switching to the parent theme (therefore losing even the simple default settings) and deleting the only customization inserted, deleting the two mu-plugins, following the update the WP Customer Area pages do not open anymore, all those modified with Elementor appear with a destroyed layout.

In my opinion you made a big mistake, this is not an update, but a new theme in all respects with a totally different and deeply invasive approach even on the behavior of third-party plugins.
Honestly, it almost seems like “violence” on poor webmasters who have to solve unwanted problems.

I hope that everything that is happening will make you retrace your steps and review the modalities of this update.

The last hope before changing the theme is that you analyze my site:
    fantasvaimec.it

and understand what can cause its total destruction since I haven’t changed practically anything

    Thread Starter mominet

    (@mominet)

I apologize if I insist but I do it only to make everything better understood:

While updating from the parent theme, all the clean code and making the effort to review everything, even the simple customizations of the other plugins are ignored, such as Max Mega Menu, even the simple positioning of the cookie stricker, the tablepress tables, i.e. the new theme covers everything and forces you to at least go and review the whole site

    Hi @mominet,

Our intention behind the update was to incorporate the latest technology and enhance compatibility with other resources. However, we acknowledge that it has affected the customization of your site. If you have not customized the theme and relied on the default features, you would greatly benefit from the update. For more details about update, please check this link https://docs.themegrill.com/colormag/docs/all-about-colormag-free-v3-0-and-colormag-pro-v4-0-major-updates.

Since you have made changes to your theme with the custom design code, the latest update contains different classes. We recommend you change and write the custom code again to customize the theme. If you are unable to do so, please provide us with the requirement for the custom CSS code with a screenshot of your sections that needs to be modified. We will look into it and get back to you with the appropriate solution.

For default layout loading issues, we recommend you check this documentation https://docs.themegrill.com/colormag/docs/troubleshooting-common-issues-after-colormag-v3-0-pro-v4-0-updates.

Also, you will need to restore your few settings and layout. So, we recommend you check our new settings and configure them according to your needs. Please check this documentation https://docs.themegrill.com/colormag/new-colormag-documentation/ and check the customizer settings.

I have already attached the screenshots as I contacted the live chat support, but canned answers and no response from the assistance do not solve the problems, the screenshots are all here…where do we start?
I have extensively explained the problems, which are not just in the layout and settings (which doesn’t make sense we have to totally reset on every update)

However I’m already in staging working on a new theme as many I know are doing since it seems that there is no intention of going back and admitting the error of approach with respect to an update approached in a totally wrong way and with no respect for the work of webmasters.

The hope for a repentance is still alive, but with each passing day it seems you have closed yourself in these pre-packaged answers despite the many sites destroyed and the people who don’t know where to turn.

    Hi @mominet,

Our team has already responded to your support query on live chat. Kindly check the reply and continue the conversation there.
