• Hello everyone,
I use Kadence on some sites that I’m developing and I love this theme so much that I think I’m close to buying it since I would like it to become my theme on which to develop all the sites.

However, I had a site developed with another theme, and just a few days ago following an update of the main theme, since they decided to change all the classes and many other things that we don’t even know what, my site is was totally destroyed since the child theme basically didn’t work anymore, and even with the main theme many functions of my site don’t work anymore, so it was the excuse to change the theme and install Kadence there too.

I state that I’m not a compulsive customizer, some CSS from some plugins, small customizations and previously only one string added to the functions.php (which at least theoretically at the moment I don’t think is necessary on Kadence).

    So my question is simple:
to protect myself as much as possible from situations like the one that happened to me, what do you advise me to do?
Install and activate the child theme before starting any work? do it only when I have to add some eventual customization to the functions.php? Isn’t that like this then there could be problems? What if one day you too at Kadence decide to change the entire structure of the theme? Will we find the sites destroyed or totally to be reset?

Sorry for the questions that may seem stupid, but unfortunately I was shocked by the absurd behavior of the developers of the other theme who basically said “we decided like this, adapt and redo your sites”

    Thank you

    Hello,

    Thanks for writing in.

Using a child theme works best if the customization you want for the site requires overriding the default functionalities, and you’d need custom codes such as PHP filter / function and too many custom CSS.

Kadence had a major update to the Kadence Blocks, but we didn’t change class names. We don’t have any plans on doing this on Kadence theme as well. If in the future Kadence decides to change the structure, I assure you that it won’t be a hassle for its users.

If you don’t see yourself using extensive custom codes, you could just use Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS to add your custom CSS and a code snippet plugin to add PHP filter / function.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Best,
    Chito
