• In an attempt to fix a mysterious problem with article headers, we deactivated and removed Gutenberg plugin. This fixed that problem. However, at some point since Friday June 30, we can no longer embed Soundcloud links. WP persistently says “that content cannot be embedded” and we are forced to host our audio off our own disk space, which is not something we can keep up for long ??

Does anyone know why WP would throw this “content cannot be embedded” error message all of a sudden, and whether getting rid of Gutenberg plugin could possibly have caused this problem? We have tried reinstating Gutenberg and it doesn’t change anything: still can’t embed Soundcloud links.

It used to be that we could just paste the Soundcloud URL into the editor and the image/player block would automatically pop up.

Now, no matter how we attempt to embed the Soundcloud content — by pasting the URL in to the editor, or by selecting the Soundcloud Embed block and pasting the URL into the popup — we get the same error message about “content cannot be embedded.”

    Hair tearing time!

  • Hi,

are the currently embedded sounds still working and only newly added ones aren’t?

I cannot get soundcloud embeds to work either, I will ask the core editor team if there is a known issue with soundcloud embeds.

Edit: I do get soundcloud embeds to work, it just didn’t work at first because of a firewall, please open your javascript console and log XHR requests, then click try again and you should see a failed xhr request, please copy the response text of that and post it here.

Does not work for us neither. Is that something we need to fix manually – as potentially described above – or will this issue be tackled by the core editor team?
    Thanks for any help provided!

    Hi @andreasra

I have not forwarded this issue to the core editor team since the issue was on my side, since when are you facing this problem?

    Hei @benniledl

More or less since today. Tried to fix some old posts when the problem first occurred. Tried to publish a new post, same problem. Tried to embedd another link/source, e.g. youtube no problem. So it seems it’s somehow Soundcloud-related…

Same issue, can confirm soundcloud embeds have stopped working both on block editor and elementor. Have tested several different sites with same issue. Seems soundcloud related.

Also seems that soundcloud’s Iframe embed works fine.

Update: tried the alt method of grabbing the Embed raw html from Soundcloud and pasting into a Custom HTML block in the editor. This works, so we are back in business and can continue publishing our radio shows online. So the revised problem description is that automated embed of Soundcloud is not working — pasting the Sc URL into the editor stopped working quite a while ago, and entering it into an Embed Soundcloud block has now stopped working also, but inserting a Custom HTML block and using Sc’s embed HTML code still works.

It’s a little clunky and I wish the easy methods still worked, but we can live with this until if (if ever) gets fixed.

Also seeing this problem running the latest version of WP 6.2.2. I’ve reported this bug to WP core.

You find the report by @paywall here

Hi folks, I just tested this after seeing the trac ticket and was able to embed successfully. I’m wondering if it was a temporary issue at Soundclound that has since been resolved.

Would someone be so kind as to test again to see if you’re still seeing the issue? You may need to do so in a new post as WP caches embeds in the post meta data.

Hi, just created a new test post and tried (a) pasting in soundcloud link (embed failed), then (b) explicitly choosing Soundcloud block in editor and pasting URL into the textbox (embed failed). So from where I sit it’s still failing.

    WP 6.2.2, twenty-fourteen-child theme.

Thanks @tazling, are you able to share the Soundcloud URL you are testing with? That will make sure I’m testing what you are seeing exactly.

I have also tried trimming everything after and including the “?” but it doesn’t seem to help.

I am also still seeing the issue. Have tried several different SoundCloud links without any luck.

Just made an account to say this is happening on Discord as well, found this thread when trying to fix the problem. Does seem to be a SoundCloud problem, old links aren’t working either. As far as I can tell, no links from the SoundCloud domain will automatically embed anywhere
