• Is there any way to make the From line of the sent email match the email address entered by the person filling out the form?

I’m using WP-Mail-SMTP so that mail is sent through Gmail. I authenticate there with my Gmail name and password and the form sends just fine.

Problem is that I use that same email address for the recipient, so I run into a couple of issues:

    1. I can’t simply “reply” to a received form. The message would just go to me unless I manually change the address.
    2. Gmail auto-forwarding doesn’t work if you send a message to yourself. This Gmail address is just sort of a filter I use, but I have forwarding set up to pass all received messages to my “real” account. But since the form is sending as that address, to that address, the forward doesn’t work.

    Reply-To: header should work.

No luck, at least not with Gmail. I see a “Reply-To:” header with the correct address, but it doesn’t seem to work right with Gmail (that is, hitting “reply” still creates a new message to my address rather than the one from the form). Also, it still doesn’t forward from Gmail to the other address.

It seems that Gmail has unusual spec about Reply-To header. I googled “gmail reply-to not working”, many people report similar issues. It might be depending on mail address. What will happen if you try different addresses?
