• Hello,

    I’m contacting you because for the past two months, my website’s position has dropped in Google search results for the main keyword (the site has gone from 12th position to 50th in a very short time).

    I first contacted Google support, explaining my problem, and they told me it was a WordPress issue, the reason I’m contacting you.

    I don’t understand the reasons for this drop, I haven’t made any changes to my site that could explain this.

    Could you please help me?

    Thank you in advance for your reply.

    Best regards

    Please provide details of exactly what Google told you. I’m 100% sure they’ll not just say “It’s a WordPress issue”.

    Thank you for your reply.
    Here are the attached screenshots of the email exchange with Google support (sorry they are in French).

    Answer from Google :

    It looks as though you contacted Google Ads, which would only be useful if you are advertising via Google Ads and are concerned that your position there has dropped. But if your organic (not ads) search results have dropped, then the Google Ads team would likely have no clue why. Then again, Google’s search team wouldn’t tell you either. There are many many reasons why a site may lose rankings, and it would be far less likely to be a WordPress problem than any of the other possibilities. You can read Google’s SEO guidelines here. But you may need to get an SEO audit from a trustworthy and reliable SEO if that isn’t helpful.

    Thank you for taking the time to reply.

    Yes it’s right, I contacted Google ADS because I had a direct contact with a person who works there, but my problme concerns a n organic SEO. Google support (non “ADS”) only have a help forum to which I turned but got no response.

    For the past two months I’ve been looking into all possible Google support, I’ve also contacted my SEO websmaster who has no explanation for my problem as well.

    Now I don’t know who to turn to, and since Google ADS support has “investigated” (according to their answer) and told me it was a WordPress problem, I decided to ask you for more information. But I understand that it would be far less likely to be a WordPress problem than any of the other possibilities.

    I’ve read on help forums that several people had SEO problems with their site following a Yoast update in May. As I also use the Yoast extension for my site, could the problem be coming from this appplication?

    Sure, it’s possible that a Yoast update is the cause, so check with their support as well. Google updates its algorithms often, and there was one in mid-May that caused a lot of rankings to drop, so that may have affected you as well. Sometimes, it’s difficult to pinpoint a problem. Sometimes, it’s not a problem on your end at all, but just an adjustment that Google has made in which your site no longer fits what Google is looking for. If you know of anything specific you might have changed around that time, that might give a clue too. Best of luck.

    Thank you very much for your reply,
    I will continue to look for the cause of my problem.

    when I performed an SEO audit of your site, it appears that your site is failing in Core Web Vitals by 100%. This is likely the primary reason why your site is disappearing from the search engine results page (SERP).

    Thank you very much for this reply and for your analysis.
    Do you know how such a poor result can happen so suddenly?
    About 6 months ago, I worked a lot with an SEO expert to improve the SEO of my site, and since then, the position of my site was increasing well. At the beginning of May, it was in 12th position on the main keyword, and suddenly, at the end of May, it was around 50th position!

    You’re welcome!

    From what I understand, Google persistently demotes websites that have serious Core Web Vitals issues, similar to what your website is experiencing. My recommendation is to initially focus on improving your on-page SEO before moving on to off-page SEO strategies.

    To understand the issues in more detail, I suggest you perform a page speed test using ‘Google Pagespeed Insights’.

    Best of luck with your optimization efforts!

    @flograndjean Hello,

    may i know have you fix your ranking drop issue yet?
    I m facing a similar issue, my ranking suddenly drop a huge amount last week, and some articles seems to be removed by SERPs, and i m using Yoast plugin too. So just wondering have you fixed your issues and found out what is the cause?

    Thanks.

    Hello ensonc,

    Following your request, I think I’ve found the reasons for my site’s downfall.
    First, the site was too slow because the CSS wasn’t optimized, then it suddenly dropped after a Google algorithm update.

    This may be the case for you too ? As a major Google update took place recently.

    My site is still struggling to climb back up the rankings, because even though I’ve been able to solve the slowness problem, I still need to optimize the page content, and that takes time.

    Best regards

    @flograndjean?Hello,

    Thanks for your reply,

    I’m still trying to find out why this is happening to me.
    May I ask if you are experiencing any disappearance of posts(in SERP)? Or just the rankings dropped a huge? Also, have you successfully to restore the rankings of some of your articles?

    Thank you so much, hope you can get the better rankings soon.

    @ensonc Hello,

    I haven’t noticed a disappearance of some articles in the SERP, just a significant drop in my site’s ranking on the main keywords.

    Good luck in finding out the cause and resolving your site’s situation!
