Hello there,

We’ve been using this plugin for a couple years now and recently site Administrators on a Multisite can no longer add shortcodes. When they click on Shortcodes from the navigation link it takes them to the Tags page. If you hover over the Shortcodes link you only see Tags, Settings and Upgrade to Pro. It is missing “All Shortcodes” and “Create Shortcode”.

What do we need to do in order to get this working again? Is there a filter we can alter or is this a bug that needs to be fixed?

Hi @srumery,

Thanks for using Shortcoder. There is no change in Shortcoder – PRO apart from extra features added to it.

So you should see the “All shortcodes” menu as in the free version.

Shortcoder uses custom post type so if the current user has all the permissions then it should be shown. Can you try navigating to <yoursite>\wp-admin\edit.php?post_type=shortcoder manually and share any error?

Can you also please try deactivating and activating the plugin again and check if the menu is shown?

Thanks,

Aakash

Hello @vaakash,

Thank you for your quick reply. I tried to deactivate and activate the plugin and the outcome is still the same.

For the path, /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=shortcoder, it says…

You need a higher level of permission.
Sorry, you are not allowed to edit posts in this post type.

What can I try next to help resolve this issue?

Hi @srumery,

Sorry for the delay. Looks like the current logged in user does not have the necesary capabilities to access that page.

Since there is no change between free and PRO w.r.t this I have no clue on this issue.

Meanwhile, can you please confirm the following?

1. is the plugin network activated or activated on individual site?
2. what is the role of the user accessing the shortcoder admin page?
3. is the plugin activated the same way similar to the free version (since it worked)?

Thanks,

Aakash

1. The plugin is not network activated. It is only activated for sites that need it.
2. Administrator.
3. I am using the version in the repo, not the pro version.

We’ve been using this for a couple years now so I am surprised that it is no longer working. Why would an Administrator not have access to the custom post type for the Shortcoder content?

Hi @srumery,

The plugin didn’t get any new release in the past couple of months. So if it was working previously then it should work now too.

Please recall if any new changes, new plugin installation, restore of old DB was made recently.

The solution would be to install this plugin temporarily “https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-role-editor/”, activate it on the site, and give “shortcoder” all the permissions for the “administrator” role like below.

Thank you for your reply, @vaakash. We’ll see if it happens on our next site. If it does, then I will dig a little deeper to see if I can figure out what happened.

Feel free to close this out.

Cheers!
