My museum is running a fundraiser where we will be selling dinners from a local restaurant. Patrons can pick and choose which options they want (we get a condensed menu from the restaurant and patrons can choose one or more things off the menu in any quantity).

We have an order form all set for in-person payment (cash, check, Square credit card), however, I do not know an easy way of doing this through our gift shop.

Basically each item is priced out differently and your Order Total will be based on the items that you choose. But to keep it clean and less confusing, we don’t want to build 20 different new items in our gift shop to accommodate this. We want patrons to be able to fill out the form we already built (or I can build one using WPForms) and then have them pay based on what the total is from the form.

The only other thing I can compare it to is like the Met Museum has a “Pay What You Wish” option, where you can pay more or less than what your actual ticket costs.

    Can WooCommerce do this?

  • Hi @wtnhistwebmaster

From what I understand, you’re looking for a solution that allows your patrons to select their dinner options and pay a total that is calculated based on their selections. WooCommerce can indeed help you achieve this.

You can use the ‘Product Add-Ons‘ extension in WooCommerce. This extension allows you to add extra product options that customers can choose from. For example, you can add different dinner options as add-ons to a single product (instead of creating multiple products). Each add-on can have its own price which will be added to the total when a customer selects it.

    Here’s a step-by-step guide:

    1. Install and activate the WooCommerce Product Add-Ons extension.
    2. Go to the product where you want to add the dinner options.
    3. Scroll down to the ‘Product data‘ section and click on the ‘Add-ons‘ tab.
    4. Click ‘Create add-ons’ and give it a name (e.g., ‘Dinner Options’).
    5. Now, you can add each dinner option as a new add-on. Click ‘Add Add-on’, give it a name, and set its price.
    6. Repeat the process for each dinner option.
    7. Save your changes.

Your patrons will then be able to select their dinner options from a dropdown menu when they view the product. The total price will be calculated based on their selections. ?? You can learn more about Product Add-Ons Here

Regarding the “Pay What You Wish” option, WooCommerce also has a ‘Name Your Price‘ extension that allows customers to enter their own prices for a product. You can use this extension to allow your patrons to pay more if they wish. ?? You can learn more about Name Your Price Here

?? Just a quick reminder, all our extensions come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So, if any product doesn’t fulfill your needs, we can promptly process a refund for you.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
