Is there a facility to enable a reader to select which order Posts are presented in – either latest post at the top or earliest post at the top? In topics that record progress in an activity, readers may sometimes want to get the story from the beginning in order to understand what went on and how the end point was reached..

Hi @pwilsonofc – your link above shows an automatically generated category archive page. Category pages in classic themes like Twenty Eleven don’t have a setting to allow you to chose what order posts are displayed in.

If you prefer to display posts from oldest to newest (instead of the default newest to oldest order) and you want to stick with your classic theme – as opposed to a newer block theme, which allows more flexibility in the way category pages are constructed – you could do the following:

    • Create a static page on which you want to display your posts in ascending date order
    • Add a Query block to your new page and set the posts to be displayed “Oldest to Newest”

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks Kathryn. You make it clear that there isn’t such a facility in Twenty Eleven. I want the website to continue to look pretty much the way it is at present, and anyway the alternatives you suggest sound too complex for me without putting far more time in than I’m prepared to do. So I’ll just live with what I’ve got. But appreciate you spending time on replying.

No worries, thanks for letting me know! I’ll mark this thread as resolved but feel free to start a new one if you have other questions.
