Validation of IP-Adresses

    Hi there…

    the Plugin validates the IP-Adresses of the comment-Authors.

    How is that done? Is an external service commissioned for this? This could be problematic regarding the GDPR or at least should be documented in the policy ??

    Hi @trimension

    this was removed in version 2.9.2.

    This was done via PHP only. It resolved the IP to a hostname and vice versa. If it did not match, the comment was marked as spam.

    The problem is -in times of load balancers- a hostname can have multiple valid IP addresses, so this produced many false positives and we removed the check.

    So no need to add something to the privacy policy and no problem with the GDPR (even back then). ??
