Best approach for a Bi-lingual WordPress site?

    I have a site in English which rarely has additional content added to it, which is in the process of being translated into Italian. I’ve found a number of plugins for providing automatic translation (babelfish-style) with a language switcher, but I’m wondering if people could recommend the best solution (or combination of plugins) for allowing entry of manually-translated content with a switcher.

    A cursory glance at https://www.poplarware.com/downloads/language_switcher seems promising, can anyone recommend it?
