    Hi

Just playing around with video press as a potential option for streaming videos on my new site.

I have tested the hd=”true” code but it is not activating on the front end. Could this be a clash with wp-rocket perhaps? I have tried to disable caching for the post where the video is embedded but still see the same issue on the front end.

Here is a link to the post where the test video is embedded…

As you’ll see it is not playing in HD by default.

I have tested on a few different browsers now including mobile and the same I see each time, the video is displaying as low resolution.

Thanks in advance for any support.

    Hi there

The post you linked to doesn’t appear to be available any more. Can you clarify how you are adding the video and what you have tried?

Note that hd=true should be included as a shortcode attribute without quotes, as shown in the documentation:

    Hi Dan

Thanks for getting back to me and sorry for the broken link. I recently changed the permalink structure for my posts…

Overall, I am very impressed with the plugin and the way videos embed into the post is sleek.

From what I can see on the front end, it seems to me that the video starts in low res and then buffers and eventually plays in HD. This could also be my internet connection as I am currently operating from a place with a very weak wifi signal.

Another thing I would like to say here is that it would be great if you could to add the “Quality” filter into the options when you click to play the video. Right now, when you enter the video playing mode, the only options to toggle while watching are “Playback Speed” and “Subtitles”. Why not just add the “Quality filter” in this section to. I think this would allow the viewer to easily increase the quality if required.

    Thanks.

    Hi again!

There is a quality setting in the video player. See this screenshot: https://d.pr/i/dkpmId

Do you see something different, or am I misunderstanding what you mean?

I do see that it’s not playing in HD initially though. Can you confirm exactly how you’ve embedded the video into the page?

By the way, since you have a VideoPress subscription, I’d suggest contacting us directly via this contact form for faster support.

Yes there is a quality filter button on the main embedded video as seen on the post page, but when you click to actually watch the video a new window opens and it is in this 2nd environment where the quality filter is unavailable. I was suggesting it would be good to add it in there too.

Thanks for the link to the contact form. I will continue this support ticket over there. Embedding currently using the short links.

    Thanks.

    Hi.

Based on your last suggestion I opened a support ticket with Jetpack almost a week ago and have not yet received a reply. I even sent a follow up email yesterday but have not heard anything back.

Do your support team reply to emails sent to [email protected] ?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi @ryankanwal , I see your request was answer in the support ticket, so will set this to resolved.

For others who may come upon this thread, the hd attribute is a legacy one that no longer works for newly uploaded videos. Instead, the player will use adaptive streaming by default, meaning that the player will choose the best quality that the connection and player size needs.
