Deleted Home Page? 404 Error Message

  • Somewhere along the line, I deleted the messages that were posted on my homepage. When I click on the HOME tab, nothing appears. It used to say ERROR 404, but that isn’t there anymore. I cannot figure out where to edit this tab to have text on it. I do not want it to be a post, to where it shows the post date, with comments, etc. I am using this website more as a company website vs a blog.

  • Maybe you should look at the ‘Reading’ under ‘Settings’ and select under Front page displays ‘A static page (select below)’. Then select your homepage page.

    The only page listed under the drop down menu in the “reading” section is my “Contact Us” page.. there is no other option. My homepage page seems to have disappeared completely??!?!?

    Which version of WordPress do you have?
    And can you find/edit the homepage under ‘Pages’
    Is the template ‘Main Index Template’ (index.php) available under ‘Appearance’ > Editor?

    I downloaded 3.0.1 as I began the process. There is no “homepage” listed under the pages, only the contact us page.

    Yes, I see the main index template when I go into editor. I click on it and all the html pops up.

    Why don’t you make a homepage then (pages > add new) and set that page to be your front page?

    If I do that, won’t my tabs then read HOME, CONTACT US, HOME with the duplicate HOME pages having the same info?

    Could be.
    Maybe you can try some of the following options before making a new home page.

    1. Try to play with the menu editor (which you can find under Appearance). Maybe there’s a setting changed.
    2. Update the permalinks by going to Settings > Permalinks and click ‘Save Changes’ (without actualy making a change).

    I see your 404 homepage is back again ??

    what output you want? what will come on your front page?

    LOL. Nothing did the trick yet. I have deleted all of the extra pages I had listed, both as parent and child pages. I am back to square one right now… a HOME tab. Still trying to play with it. All I want is to be able to make changes to the homepage (the HOME tab) and have text there. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to see the fix…

    isn’t working then maybe it’s a setting in your theme (Titan Theme). Can you find a setting tab of the Titan Theme in your menu? Maybe you can change some settings there.
