• All the pages on my WordPress site have two separate Description tags, which is contrary to W3C specifications.

I want to remove the first occurrence of the Description tag from each page, but I have no idea where it is coming from. I thought it might be hard-coded into header.php, but I checked the source code and it doesn’t seem to be there. The content of the first Description tag is the same on every page, so it must be configured at the Site level, but I’m not sure how to find it and get rid of it.

The second occurrence of the Page Description tag, which I configured via the WordPress Pages screen, is the one that I want to keep. The content of the second Description tag is different on every page.

How can I get rid of the duplicate description tag?

  • Sounds like it could a theme issue – which theme are you using?

The default twentyten theme definitely only shows your description once.

What do you mean exactly by ‘description tag’ – is it a meta tag, h1, h2, div, or something else?

It could also be caused by a plugin – have you tried disabling your plugins to see if that solves it?
