Windows to Linux Migration, Broken Permalinks

    Hi everybody,

    I recently migrated from a Windows server to Linux, and I’ve noticed that my permalinks aren’t working/are broken.

    From my understanding, Windows servers don’t use htaccess, and that’s where my problem is. However, I’m quite unfamiliar with configuring htaccess so I was wondering if anyone could lend a hand.

    How could I go abouts fixing the permalinks?

    Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, I was wondering if it’s possible to rename my theme folder without suffering any nasty consequences. I was planning on simply renaming the folder through an FTP client.

    Try re-saving your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.

    Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, I was wondering if it’s possible to rename my theme folder without suffering any nasty consequences. I was planning on simply renaming the folder through an FTP client.

    You should be able to do that without any major side effects, but I recommend switching to another theme before you change the directory’s name.
