Favicon not showing on Bing

Thanks for reaching out about your Bing search results. It seems Bing is insistent on requiring the?.ico?file extension, while Google will use whatever image you’ve setup, even if it is a?.png or .gif, similar to how modern browsers can render the favicon even if it’s not an?.ico.

thank you for your help on this.

I just submitted my site’s favicon URL to Bing with Bing Webmaster Tools. I don’t know if this will fix the issue. At least IMO it’s worth a try.

In the meantime I tried to find out how to add a (favicon) URL to my sitemap (since this is not automatically done by Yoast’s SEO WP plugin). I understand, that I have to code the URL. This is what I have learned to far ??

Do I need to add an additional tag? If so which one? And, can I just add that code snippet at the end of my index file?

Hi Stefan,

First of all, sorry for the delay in response. You won’t need to add the favicon to the sitemap.

You can add the meta tag <link rel="icon" href="/path/to/favicon.ico"> to the page to output the favicon to the search engines. You can also add the favicon via the WordPress settings by following the steps mentioned at our help center.

Also, when I checked the source code on your website, I noticed that the favicon is linked to an image from the CDN in .webp format (). So trying to have the favicon URL from your domain (without using the CDN URL) in a format like PNG or JPEG will be helpful for the search engines to read it properly.
