This installation is on my local machine using MAMP which by all indications is running fine and has been shut down, restarted several times.

The blog, as a visitor would see it, works great as far as I can tell. Pages and posts load, links work, eveything displays correctly.

The problem is I can no longer access the admin portions – I get an entirely black screen in the browser – no error messages or anything. This happens when I try to go to the dashboard, posting page, etc.

What do I need to do to fix it? It was working fine this morning and all I’ve done is work on themes, not tinker with anything outside the wp-conten/themes folder

  • Try renaming the plugins directory. Create a new empty pugins directory with the same permissions as the old.
Second, Try renaming the theme directoy you are using. Create a new theme directory with the default (twenty-ten) theme files using the same directory name as the old one.
See if it comes up from one of those.

I tried both of those (sorry for not split testing) and one of them worked. I reversed the action on both, restoring things to how they had been and the problem did not reappear but it seems to work ok now.

Webjunk, you are a genius. Thanks very much.
