Connecting multisite to existing Matomo Site id’s

    Hi,

    I am currently migrating form Google Analytics to Matomo for a multisite WordPress instance which handle two websites.

    I just achieve the Google Analytics migration and I know want to activate Matomo tracking on each website of my multisite. However it seems that the WP-Matomo connector plugin doesn’t connect the webistes with the right ID. Instead it creates two aditionnal sites on matomo side.

    What has been done :

    • I installed Matomo On Premise
    • I have made the Google analytics migration (for both of my websites) thanks to the GoogleAnalyticsImporter plugin.
      So I now have two sites on Matomo with ID 6 & 7
    • I installed the WP-Matomo plugin on my multisite network and activated it thanks to the API token with success
    • However, instead two other sites have been created on Matomo side. They have id 8 & 9
    • In consequence, the JS tracking code added on both website is not the right one.

    So I guess my quesiton is : how is it possible to connect the tracking on my website to existing Matomo sites ?

    Is that achievable ?

    Nevermind, I solved the case !

    It appears that when executing the Google Analtycs Data import, the two created sites on Matomo’s side were not given the correct URL. Instead it tooks the Google Analytics property name.

    So when activating the tracking with WP-Matomo, it was not able to recognize the sites.

    So to solve that :

    • On Matomo On Premise : I deleted the two unwanted site created by WP-Matomo
    • On Matomo On Premise : Then I edited the two site containing my Google Analytics data to set the correct URL
    • Then On WP-Matomo : I reset all the plugin data (within the “Support” tab of the plugin)
    • Then On WP-Matomo : I reactivate the tracking : and this time the plugin successfully recognize the existing site on Matomo.

    Tracking is activated with correct sites IDs.
