• Hello, I want to post a family website based on WP. My wife is American and I am Bulgarian, so I want a bilingual site. I was thinking one approach is to have two blogs running in parallel, i.e. domain.com/us and domain.com/bg but I am not sure if I can do this on the same server.

I was wondering if there is a different way of doing it, where each entry can be in both languages but you can select the language of choice based on your browser settings, or better of by selecting a button, the way alternative stylesheets are selected.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Mitko

  • This plugin, Polyglot, is aimed at exactly this:

I installed a whole new WP at a subdirectory “english” in my site. Now I have two databases and two separate websites (same layout tho). I prefere that to “Polyglot” plugin just because I will not have all the posts in the two languages. Some news I will post in my site are concerned just to brazilian readers, there is no sense of translating everything to english.
I?′m having no problems running both installations, if you wanna try.

Jaqueline, in your wp-photo pages you have wrongly encoded characters. (probably written in iso-8859-1 and now displaying in utf-8.)

hmmm… thanks for the advice Moshu!! I will try to fix it! ??
It was perfect before my upgrade to WP 1.5! Anyway, I’m testing another galleries plugin, so, in one-week time (tops) I will replace my entire photo gallery.
I?′m using UTF-8, some posts I have imported from Greymatter has iso-8859 encode and it?′s really annoying, but I?′m replacing it very slowly.

Jaqueline, I had the same problem with a blog imported from GM (encoding there iso-8859-2) and after importing it to WP I managed to export the data from mysql into an .sql file which I opened in UltraEdit32 and made a file conversion to utf-8. Now everything is OK.
