Hi, I am curious to how segmentation works. If I make a segment excluding a list, how does Mailpoet handle if the addresses in the exclusion appears in other lists?

    Hello there @jonas_op ,

Hi, I am curious to how segmentation works. If I make a segment excluding a list, how does Mailpoet handle if the addresses in the exclusion appears in other lists?

When you create a segment and exclude a specific list, MailPoet will not send emails to the subscribers on that particular excluded list. However, if any of those email addresses appear on other lists that are not excluded, MailPoet will still send emails to them as part of those active lists.

It’s important to note that MailPoet treats lists as separate entities, and the exclusion of a list only affects that specific list within the segment. If the same email address is part of another active list, it will receive emails intended for that list.

    I hope this helps.

Of course, feel free to reach out to us if you need any more help or have other questions and we’d be happy to help.

    Thank’s for the reply

That is not what I expected or wanted, normally MailPoet excludes duplicates, and I was sort of expecting the same behaviour.

To me it makes more sense that when excluding an email that’s in a list, that that e-mail is excluded from the sending, but I can see instances where this is not the wanted behaviour.

Maybe there could be an option to “exclude duplicates”

    Thank you // Jonas

This is my issue. I have a list (imported) of all the people who signed in to a course.

I would like to target everybody else that has not paid yet. What is the best practice to do this since the ones signed in to the course might be on other lists.

Would the same issue occur if I excluded everybody that had bought a WooCommerce product?

    Hi @jonas_op,

I would like to target everybody else that has not paid yet. What is the best practice to do this since the ones signed in to the course might be on other lists.

So first, you’d need to make sure the paid customers are all added to a separate list.

Then, you can exclude everyone from the imported list using a segment to filter out these subscribers added to that specific list, and send your newsletters to the segment only when you want to target non-paying customers.

Would it help to achieve what you want to?
