    Hi…
i am paying for one minute of dumbness ??
I updated plugins, i was sure i had a back up of my files, and then for first time, after updating plugins, everything went wrong, and i can’t find the back i had.
so i downloaded the older versions of the plugins, and upload them back. but still i get error, messages, and my homepage is still messed up.
    the error i’m getting is:

    https://www.layabozi.com
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home7/layabozi/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php:269) in /home7/layabozi/public_html/wp-includes/classes.php on line 1586

i got again the wp 2.9.2, get the general-template.php file and upload it. the error is still there.

i followed these instructions too… the error is not gone neither with this…

    it’s 5 am, i’ve been in these for hours, and well… :/

    please HELP ME!

  • If you are on WP 2.9.2 then upgrade WP. The newest version of the plugins are designed to work with the newest version of WP.

I should i know. but i’m scared of upgrading, because the mess can be bigger. I think I’ll finally hire a developer, even though she’s asking me to leave wordpress (i love wp, but she knows way more than me).
I fixed it though. I deleted the plugins I upgraded…
thanks to Ganseki on freenode web IRC #wordpress
sun’s up. other night of sleep lost because of poetry ??
    thanks tho webjunk!

Most likely the NEW plugin version requires the NEW version of WP. Know it does not make sense ?? Kind of like MS Word requires the newest version of Windows….
There is no reason to stay on WP 2.9.2. You miss a thousand fixes, additional features and of course being abe to use the newest version of plugins which BTW, also have fixes & new features. I your theme works in 2.9.2 it will work in WP 3.01
But if you would rather Pay someone else to do what you can do yourself, and be forced into a different application you do not want well……..

I’ll add my voice to what webjunk’s been saying. Obviously if you rely on loads of plugins, there can be some anxiety about upgrading. But just remember, if there’s a particular plugin that doesn’t work with the new WordPress version and the developer hasn’t updated it, chances are there will be another plugin that can do something similar.

WordPress is one of the best platforms out there, so don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!

well. you both can be right. but the experienced developer i talked about, made me realized that no matter how friendly are the plugins, they mostly are full of bugs. and it is true. they are mostly fixed after some tests, true too. and as bright as i am ?? i’m not a professional web developer. and after almost 3 years working on wp, still I’m experiencing moments of “defconone” like today, and I wonder if I’m not being stubborn, and i better accept my lack of knowledge and experience ad give the power to someone that has been properly trained to develop websites.

and about upgrading to wp 3.0.1… yes. i know. i will do it. just that to it, i need other afternoon, to back up all again, and check that the plugins i’m using on my homepage are compatible with the new 3.0.1 and if not.. then … oh buddha! well, then i’ll have to figure out ways to replace them. and some plugins take days to figure out and adjust.
i guess it all depends on how complex is the website we are talking about. i guess for a blog that’s rolling posts one after the other one, without much interest on featuring images, and mp3, and indexes, and you know.. more stuff to make things be more like a magazine, then probably, i should recognize my limitations.

if there would be pills to absorb wp knowledge, and master it, then amigos, i’ll be consuming chemicals. but i have only 24 h/day to juggle, and try to use them efficiently the best i can, to do all i want. so. I’ll probably have to figure out the way to pay this lady with some red punk

I will say most of your problems are caused by yourself. By not upgrading. As for most plugins having bugs, the opposite is true. What you were told was an outright lie. Most are well tested. But if you fail to keep everything upgraded than its not a bug but like I said before, trying to install the new vers. of Word or Excel with Windows 98. What do you expect?
Have hundreds of WordPress websites some very complex with many plugins and have rare issues. Most problems on these forums are because like you they are running older versions of things, failed to read the documentation for which WP & plugins has plenty on here or are trying to do something beyond the normal scope of the plugin.
I work with other applications besides WP (won’t name them here) as well as straight HTML/PHP but have less issues with WP.

yes. most of my problems are cause by myself. (that’s a life truth) but I am not upgrading right now, out of experience, every time i’ve upgraded there’s some problem going on. so, to upgrade i need a free day ( i don’t have many of those), to back up, to put the site off, to check that every plugin is also adjusted to the new version of wp, to fix the bugs that new versions of plugin come with, and then to get all in place again.
when time is a restriction, and when you have an audience to respect, then it’s not just go an upgrade.. u see?
and upgrading itself is a process that comes with difficulties. besides, if i wait a bit, there are new fixes coming out, and so i can skip some more problems not upgrading right now, and waiting.
and probably, WP is easier than other applications, specially if you are pro, but I’m not a professional designer, I’m many other things, I have learned fast and be able to design my site -mostly alone- but without the help of programmers and designers it would be less nice, and even though it has a looot of problems still. So i need to minimize the complications, because unluckily, I am not yet a superhero
if you want to help me, to stay in WP, then I’ll be SUPER HAPPY to accept your help, and work it out with you. but alone, it is scary to upgrade

“Need a Free day” to upgrade? Heck, I would have to go find another line of work. When I do upgrades I have done as many as a hundred websites in a day!

    Thread Starter layabozi

    (@layabozi)

well. yes. i’m happy for you is that easier. there’s people for whom is even impossible to think in doing a website by themselves even. you know. not everybody has the same skills. so. i’d say if you are that good, then yes, you should consider this as an option if you are not happy with your current career now.
and i repeat, if for you is that easy, then you are more than welcome to help me.
