    hello,

I use a search plugin for my website visitors. this plugin offers ajax feature. but query times are very long in this search plugin. i told the problem to the plugin developer. when he checked it; he told me that an admin-ajax.php error occurs when any search query is made.

i did some research and found out that the problem is probably security or cache plugin.

I switched the Web application firewall status off via wordfence and the problem was fixed.

What can I do in wordfence to avoid a problem with the admin-ajax.php file?

Hi @aga2442, Thank you for reaching out.

It may be useful to put the firewall in learning mode. From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now perform the actions that were causing issues. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal,l and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished performing the actions, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting. Now test to see if these actions work correctly.

https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/learning-mode/ is an amazing resource for learning more about the WAF and learning mode.

If this doesn’t work, could you please send a diagnostic report to [email protected]? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Thanks,

    Mark.

    @wfmark

    Thank you for your support.

I had already seen this method in a support message opened by a different person. then I did this operation.

    the problem was fixed.

but after a few days the error started to occur again.

also at the moment the learning mode is still active.

    but my problem persists.

the system successfully sent the problem to your [email protected] address.

I couldn’t find your diagnostic report. To send it, please try the below instead:

Navigate to the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic page and then click the “Export” button. Send the txt file to [email protected]. Add your forum username to the subject and respond here once done.

Hi @aga2442, thank you for reaching out.?

Could you please confirm the error you see while the firewall is enabled?

Additionally, when logged in to wp-admin, head over to Wordfence > Tools> Live Traffic (Expand All Results) and share a screenshot of the live traffic entries recorded when the issue occurs. If there’s nothing there, the Traffic Logging Mode may need to be changed to ALL TRAFFIC temporarily, and then re-visit the site to log the attempt.

You can take a screenshot of the error using snipboard.io and share the link here so I can take a look and advise.

    Thanks,

    Mark.
