    Hi,

I hope someone can help or steer me i the right direction.

So I’ve got a client whose last developer migrated their site to a new host, and upon migration, it seems like the WordPress installation isn’t accepting the login details. The previous developer is now unreachable so I can’t even find out what he’s done or hasn’t done. I’ve also checked in the Softaculous software that there is a WordPress installation is present but when scanning the files for WordPress It comes back as no installation was found. I tried logging in via yoursite.com/wp-admin and as stated before the passwords and username don’t match and it uses up one of the three tries. I’ve gone and reset the password via MyPhpAdmin to no avail, I’ve also made sure that the database details (DB_USERNAME, DB_PASSWORD, and DB_HOST) are correct in the wp-config and WordPress still doesn’t accept the username and Password.

Any help or direction to get this site up again would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Kyle

is there a complete backup (files and database) of the site from BEFORE the migration to new hosting?

is the site available for normal visitors?

which tables are available in phpmyadmin?

I’ve also checked in the Softaculous software that there is a WordPress installation is present but when scanning the files for WordPress It comes back as no installation was found.?

when you look in the file manager associated with the website – do you see the folders wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes as well as the other standard files for a WordPress install? if not, what is actually in the file manager?

have you contacted the new webhosting vendor for guidance / insight?

it uses up one of the three tries

is there a plugin or other custom code controlling the login process?

    Hi,

    Thank you for the reply.

Yes, the backup is there and I’ve restored the backups and it gives me the same issue. Looking in the file manager all the files for the WordPress installation are there, I don’t see anything out of the ordinary missing.

The host really hasn’t been any help, they just say, and I quote, “I’ve read the past emails, not entirely sure what we need to do” so that doesn’t help me in the slightest.

I’m not too worried about the login using up the three tries, I can just clear out the browser cookies and I can try again.

Its a very strange issue that I’ve never seen before, but setting up the site again locally I have no issues getting into the site and It accepts the password and everything functions as it should.

sounds like the site is working “normally” in a different (local) environment

can you set up the site in an enviroment like instawp.com?

can you disable whatever is impacting your login attempts?

I assume you have tried to login from various devices and networks already + have tried to create a new admin user via phpmyadmin + renamed all plugins to deactivate them in the enviroment that is not properly working

is there any chance of malware / hacking that is impacting?

Yeah, I’ve tried via different browsers with the same results, I’ve deactivated all the plugins and I still get the same results. The site opens but gives me a 404 error and nothing else is available on the site to view as a regular visitor. So I’m not sure what’s going on there. I think my best bet now is to just remove the previous installation of WordPress, delete the database and start from scratch, and then upload the wp-content folder and that should get mostly everything back to a working state.

I don’t think it has been hacked because as far as I’ve been told as soon as they migrated the files over the developer couldn’t log into the WP dashboard either and then he flat-out ignored the client and they haven’t been able to get a hold of him since. This just leads me to believe he has no idea what he’s done or how to fix it.

It’s the strangest thing, I’ve never come across an issue like this before so I’m not sure what the previous developer did to break the site this badly.
