    after compression screaming frog still reads all images as over 100kb. how to further reduce the size?

    Your best option would be to resize the images (I have also just check Google page speed insights and it is suggesting this as well). Unfortunately this is not something that WPO does but you can use a plugin such as Imagify for this. As your site supports https, I would also not use minification and merging as it may be slowing your site down.
