• I am totally new to word press and am still trying to get the hang of it but have encountered a problem which I need help with.

I have installed wordpress and everything seems to work ok except whenever I click the header any page links and archive links and category links it returns me to my main website instead of going to the relevant page, this seems to happen with everything. I would like the main header to take me to my main site but all other links to stay with my blog on wordpress.

Forgot to add that I run a main site and installed wordpress in a subdirectory using fantastico.

Can anyone help with this problem? Am grateful for any help.

Try re-saving your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.

If that doesn’t work, can you share a link to your site so we can see what’s happening?

    Not sure what is happening?

I have tried resaving the permalinks but nothing changes plus when I add a new category it does not appear on the blog.

    The blog link is: https://www.wrexhamtaxi.co.uk/wrexhamtaxiblog

    Main site is: https://www.wrexhamtaxi.co.uk

    Thanks

I see what’s happening now. Go to Settings/General in your admin panel and set both URL values to https://www.wrexhamtaxi.co.uk/wrexhamtaxiblog

Then, re-save your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel.

When you add new categories, they will remain hidden until at least one post is assigned to them.

    Excellent James!

Works a treat now and so simple when you know what you are doing!!

    One more question?

If someone enters the blog through the main site has a look around and wants to return to the main site how can you do that? If they dont want to use back button, what is the best way to be able to make them return to main site? I am not sure if you would add a button somewhere on the blog so they could just click that and go back to main site but not really sure how to do that on wordpress??

    Thanks for the help!

You could add a link to the sidebar or header navigation. It just depends on your personal preference and how easy it is to modify your theme.
