Does anyone know how to remove the purple payment request button that’s appeared on our (UK) sites recently?

We feel like three options is a little confusing for customers.

Nothing new seems to be enabled in the Stripe account and I don’t see anything specific to the purple button within the Stripe Gateway settings.

I’m hoping for a way to remove this button from devices where Apple / Google Pay are not supported.

It seems to be the same #wc-stripe-payment-request-wrapper that either shows Google / Apple Pay or this purple button, this means we can’t just hide it as we lose those faster checkouts, I can’t hide with a media query as we also lose the faster checkouts.

It seems crazy that Stripe / Stripe Gateway can enable this on our account / store without offering a way to remove it.

Lots of reading suggests hiding it, which isn’t perfect, or disabling something in Stripe – we don’t seem to have anything disable there.

Anyone managed to make this go away?

Hi @xue28, what else would you like to see over what I pasted in the original screenshot?

    Hi there @kieranbarnes ??

Thank you for reaching back, with further details on this.

how to remove the purple payment request button that’s appeared on our (UK) sites recently?

From what I gather, the button appears because the express checkout options are available at your store.

There are two styles of buttons you might see depending on if you A) allow third-party cookies for the site you’re visiting, and B) have the “Share that you have Google Pay with companies outside Google” setting enabled?in Google Pay itself.

Editing the express checkout options, or disabling them, would allow you to customize the front-end experience as required. The related documentation can be found here, for your convenience.

I hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions about this matter, or if we misinterpret your concern in any way. We will be happy to help you further.

    Thank you for the reply.

I understand this appears as an express checkout option, I believe this is displayed when Apple / Google Pay isn’t available. I also understand I can rebrand them as shown in the documentation. Those rebanding options don’t seem to affect this anonymous purple button or give store owners an option to disable it.

The Apple / Google Pay options are great, they are Apple / Google branded and immediately recognisable. This purple anonymous thing isn’t. It isn’t branded. What is it? Who is it? Do we trust it? All questions customers are asking.

Two customers even called to ask if we’d been hacked – it looked it one of those buttons hackers drop in to steal card information.

If I believe that and some customers do, it can’t be good and needs to be hidden somehow.

I’m not 100% sure, because the button isn’t branded if it is the Stipe Link express checkout, the options in the Stripe Dashboard sort of suggest this may be it, however it’s branded in teal there not purple.

The final link you gave just allows us to disable all express checkouts, I’d like to keep Apple / Google Pay and remove the anonymous purple thing (I still don’t know what it is!)

I’ve just re-read the docs, and it seems to be an unbranded Google Pay button. Which is showing in my Chrome based Polypane browser and we’ll assume those other customers that are seeing it are edge-cases.

    Hi there,

Thanks again for getting back to us!

I understand your concerns about the purple button and the confusion it’s causing for you and your customers. I tried checking your site from different browsers, but could not see the button from my end.

Is it possible to share a screenshot of how you view the button from your end? Here’s how to make a screenshot: https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/

You can use a screenshot sharing software like https://snipboard.io/ to share the link to the screenshot directly in your reply.

If other customers are also encountering this, it could probably be a more widespread issue. However, without additional information, it’s difficult to confirm.

Please provide us with a screenshot if possible, so we can visually understand the issue and help investigate further.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi @kieranbarnes

I am sorry, but it looks like the screenshot didn’t come through correctly. To assist you better, could you kindly share screenshots that show the issue you’re experiencing?

For screenshots, you may use https://snipboard.io – please follow the instructions on that page, then paste the URL in this thread.

However, please note that both Apple Pay and Google Pay use browser and device-specific technologies. For example, Apple Pay requires Safari on Apple devices, which includes iPhones, iPads, and Macs, while Google Pay works on Chrome browsers. If you use a different browser or device, the buttons may not appear or work as expected.

    Looking forward to helping you.
