    Title says it all. I’m adding my lamentation to the long list of bug reports in this forum. The support team regularly say that the bugs have been fixed but this is not true. I’ll stick with good old reliable version 3.41 for the time being.

  • Hi @papijo,

    We are aware of some issues causing this, please stay on 3.41 until our next release.

    Once 3.55 or above is available you can turn on wp_debug and then update, in case your site breaks you can share any error inside /wp-content/debug.log as that might guide us in the right direction.

    Please keep me posted.

    @william,

    Thanks for your reply. I’ll stick with version 3.41 and wait for a reliable update.

    Hi how did you downgrade?

    It’s a nightmare…

    @designguide Fortunately, I have a local “mirror” of my online WP sites where I update my plugins first, in case there are problems, before updating the online sites. That’s how I found out that version 3.54 crashed my site. It was easier to remove 3.54 from my local site and revert to a copy of 3.41 (actually by copying the files from the online site!).

    @papijo
    thanks for sharing your procedure! A secure way…

    Pro support sent me a link, where I could download 3.41 version…
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/nextgen-gallery/advanced/
    but my problem would not go away… so I change back to 3.55 and I’m waiting for a new release…

    @papijo

    from pro support, I got the hint, that more people had issues with update, because all settings were lost…

    I just discovered, that indeed my general settings disappeared…

    Hey @papijo, @designguide,

    We are sorry for the confusion it may have created, but NGG 3.55 was an unplanned and there are still problems that got postponed to NGG 3.56.

    We recommend temporarily downgrading to NGG 3.41 once again.

    Thanks for your patience while our development team works on fixing the remaining problems.

    I uploaded 3.41 and that fixes the problem I was having, unfortunately the plugin updates to 3.55 even though auto updates is not chosen.

    Thread Starter papijo

    (@papijo)

    @sbrenner This should not happen. If auto updates is not enabled, then plugins should not update… This is what I can see on my site where I have NextGEN 3.41 installed (and I will NOT update to 3.55 until I’m certain it’s working).

    NextGEN Gallery You have version 3.41 installed. Update to 3.55. View version 3.55 details.
    Compatibility with WordPress 6.4.2: 100% (according to its author)

    I’m not the only one this has happened to. And it’s happening multiple times on several of my sites that use nextgen. It’s real.

    Hi @papijo, @designguide, @sbrenner,

    Could you please update to NextGen Gallery 3.57 to see if that’ll fix the problem encountered with the past 3.5.x versions?

    Thanks

    @mihai Ceban
    Thanks for update 3.57 info…
    As stated before, I had lost my gallery settings and the css was incorrect after 3.55…
    Resetting my gallery settings (after update to 3.55) manually, as far as I could remember my settings helped… (nearly)
    After todays update to 3.57, I saw “(nearly”) was not solved… so I had to dig once more in my settings and changed the thumbnail to be cut… and this brought back my wished css…

    So, I cannot tell, if loosing gallery settings is now prevented by 3.57 update, as I readjusted my settings manually after 3.55 update… and now turned on the thumbnail cutting and everything looks perfect…

    Thanks for supporting!

    @mihai Thanks for the update version 3.57

    I’ve just tested it on my local and online wp sites. It seems to be working as expected, I no longer get errors etc. However my customised template located in “MYWPSITE\wp-content\ngg\modules\photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails\templates\papijo-view.php” does not quite work as expected. I’ll probably have to review my customization.

    Just to confirm that version 3.57 is working fine. I have solved my custom template problem.
