• I want to import media from another site. I created an XML export file and then selected it for import it on the new site. The export file is 14 MB and the upload file size on the target server is 128 MB, memory is set to 512 M. I believe I have the bases covered. The problem I am encountering is I get a failed to import message for all media files in the export file.

I have never used the WordPress importer before. Are there limitations?

    Any insight is appreciated!

Hi @bigmoxy – that definitely sounds a little unusual. The fact that the importer is attempting to get the image files suggests to me that it isn’t the memory that is an issue.

One thing I’m wondering is if the server of the original site has some kind of firewall or security which would be blocking the images from being accessed. Do you have anything like that set up?

I’m having the exact same issue. I am wondering if the importer could be triggering mod security on the remote server. Are there any rules that the requests made by importer are likely to trigger?

Hi @garymarkfuller, I’m not a aware of specific rules, but my suggestion would be to disable temporarily any security features temporarily to avoid issues. Please create your own topic if that doesn’t help, as the issues might look similar, but are usually different.

Also, what I would recommend is to enable debugging mode. To enable it, edit the wp-config.php file and add the line define( 'IMPORT_DEBUG', true );. This could provide more detailed error messages for failed imports???? on your logs.

I am getting exactly the same issue. If I try to upload more than one month.

I can see on the server that the files are being uploaded into the WP Content month folders, but then are not registered, as the plugin seems to crash, in the media centre.

So if I only try to upload only one month I now get this error:

In fact now your plugin will not even import one month at a time!

    Any ideas please?
