I am using it McMike and it is very cool so far.

I was finding the input of code each time to be a pain initially so I worked around that by adding some CSS but it would still be nice to have the ability to set up a layout which is there each time you add a new quote.

..but, just thinking out loud. A great plugin – thanks for sharing ??

mcmike, Thanks for the awesome mod. I installed it on my test server (Windows) and it works great. I uploaded it to my Linux host and got the following error

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/sfboarders/public_html/mael/wp-content/plugins/mc_random_quote.php on line 20

Plus there is no need to create a MySQL table, just upload the plugin and put the php call statement somewhere.

Odd problem since I never had an invalid session, I got some like problem with someone else on a Windows Server I will release an update for it soon that will check that function otherwise have it be done with an alternate way. What version of mysql do you run ??

mcmike: I am running MySQL 4.0.22 on my Linux host.

On my Windows test server your mods work great. Quote of the day and your shoutbox. I just cant get it to work on my Linux server. I basically uploaded the files to my host and made the tables in PHPMyAdmin. Any ideas?

Hmmzzz the error usually occours when the variable ($res in the plugin file) is not correctly formated… But I can;t remember that (and offcourse I do not have that problem here….)

Can you use the admin-function in WP-Admin ?

I tried it in my system running Apache on Win XP. I am not able to get the admin function of the plugin. I get this error message:

Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wordpress/wp-admin/d:\web\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\mc_random_quote.php on this server.

Please tell me what is wrong.

mcmike – I can use the admin function. You are talking about “McMike’s Random Quote Admin” where I add new quotes correct? I can add quotes. That’s not a problem. Only thing is getting them to display on my page.

kichu- I got the same error as you on my test server. On Linux server it works correctly.

@kichu -> You need to sait the rights / permit to READABLE to OTHERS (like all plugin files) otherwise Apache / WP doesn’t have the correct rights (also the FOLDER of plugins should be READABLE to OTHERS)

@sfboarders – Thats good to know, let me build an alternate file for you for the showing of info (hope that that one does work…)

Try downloading:
https://www.mcmike/mc_random_quote.php2
and rename the file to mc_random_quote.php and store that in the plugins dir.
(please remember to backup / save the old file…
I created a small loop for you.

I need to figure out if for some reason the mysql_connection to the DB is closed and if so than I need to start a new connection ?? Hope my small hack-file will work for you
