    EWWW Shows Malware

While this EWWW Image Optimizer plugin triggers malware alerts on VirusTotal, no actual harm is visible yet. However, the constant alerts raise concerns about potential risks (strongly hoping it to be fp).

Exercise caution and consider alternatives showing cleaner tests to ensure a secure website environment.

Thousands are downloading so was bit concerned. Uninstalled it while writing this.

Please remove brackets () in above urls.

Shall change rating to 4 or 5 stars after getting clarification from the developer.

    Thanks
Happy New Year to All 2024

EDIT: Developer clarified. Rating changed from 1-star to 4-star. Thanks

    Hey lionhunter!

Thanks for the head’s up! I would very much say this is most assuredly a false positive, unless perhaps you downloaded this from someplace other than the WordPress repository. However, as your report shows, every other anti-virus out there except that one (MaxSecure) showed a clean record. And for it to be showing a trojan and nothing else to be picking that up… well the chances of that seem pretty slim. For reference, MaxSecure tends to have a less-than-stellar record in most regards and all VirusTotal does is aggregate what other places are saying.

I’m more than happy to discuss this further if you would like. You are welcome to contact us directly https://ewww.io/contact-us/ or start a support thread!

Of course, I downloaded from official WP repository. Thats why I was concerned.

    I trust your words.

I am adjusting my rating to four stars because false positives should not diminish the hard work that developers have invested.

Off late, many FPs seen in VT. Not just for MaxSecure but others too.

False Positive is fine but what about false negative? Lolz

    VirusTotal is worth it?

    Is it reliable?

    Thanks again.

VirusTotal is fine… they don’t actually do anything. They take the results from a bunch of different places and puts them in one place. If you look at the report you can see all the different places that they get results from, and, again, in this instance, there was only the one issue, from MaxSecure.
