Hi, I have been trying Optimole for this site for a bit and it was ok, but didn’t fully work and hangs on chrome especially randomly, which is not ideal. Its a high media site hence the need for optimisation. Also when doing google page speed tests it still comes up with things like images need to be optimised and served in next gen formats which I thought optimole was meant to do.

I thought to try cloudflare to see if I could fix the hanging issues on chrome and speed it up, and I found your Super Cache for cloudflare plugin, so I installed that and set cloudflare and it seems even slower?

Any help is appreciated as if I can get it to work it seems good and something I can use on other sites too.

    Thanks

    Hi @matt25,

Serve Images in Next Gen Format: This error arises because Optimole now offers the “Best Format” feature, which optimizes image delivery to your site visitors. Enabling this feature ensures that images are served in the most efficient format for your users, minimizing size without compromising quality. This feature dynamically selects the optimal image format, such as WebP, AVIF, JPEG, or PNG, based on the smallest resulting file size. For example, it may choose JPEG when it results in a smaller file size compared to next-gen formats like WebP or AVIF. This implementation significantly enhances website loading speed.

If you prefer not to use this feature, you can disable it in the plugin settings and instead enable the AVIF image support option, which should resolve the “Next Gen” error.

Also, I checked your site and images loads fine for me with good speed compared to Optimole disabled version of your site using the ?optml_off=ture at the end of the url.

In order to test this yourself, you can follow this guide – https://docs.optimole.com/article/1036-how-can-i-see-if-my-website-is-actually-faster-with-optimole

Hello Kush, Thanks for the reply.

OK thats good to know, if its just being flagged up but is actually better then thats great i’ll leave it.

I have been looking over the past couple of days and I tried your test it actually seemed a bit slower with Optimole but it was certainly slow. I think it is slower with the Super Cache for cloudflare plugin maybe, is there any incompatibility with that?

The site owner is paritluar about high quality images but I am trying to make it run as fast as possible with that in mind and have set the quality level in optimole fairly high

    Thanks

No, we are not aware of any incompatibility between both the plugins. If you notice some issues with image loading or blurry images, then let us know and we will do more testing.

    Thank you!

OK thanlks for the reponse, It definatly seems a lot slower since using cloudflare for the images, they are not blurry or aything, just loading in slowely when its not cached in the browser. Home page doesnt seem to bad but the pages with image tiles on such as the “Our Work” page.

I have been trying at different times of day and different browsers and its still loading the images section by section as if I have terrible internet.

Any testing you can do to see whats going on would be appreciated

    Many thanks

Please share how it looks on your end, thank you!

There is a video of the loading for me first on chrome then Firefox at the link below:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1V8mpd_c9g9U6vLuIA3eJrcshLMmf4roD/view?usp=sharing

You will see it’s running pretty slow on first load, occasionally it was faster but that was about average for me, I don’t have superfast internet but decent and all other websites load fine.

One thing I have noticed is that the videos that should play when hovered seem to be loading in which I don’t think they did before. The video tag is set to only preload metadata not the vid. Does either plugin effect that and make them all load in on page load?

    Thanks

    Hi @matt25,

Sorry for the delay due to weekend.

I checked your site and it seems you have deactivated Optimole as there are no Optimole urls on the site. Have you decided to remove it? Can you activate it so we can check the issue on more time?

    Thank you!

Hi, Yes I disabled it to debug, I have now re-enabled and disabled the CDN plugin So you should be able to see it now.

    Many thanks

    Hi Matt,

I have checked the site, and for me, the site loads with the same speed as before, and images are served properly by Optimole. I recommend you clear your browser’s cache or try a different device/browser. Also, make sure you don’t have any js blocking extensions installed in the browser

Let me know how it goes, thank you!
