Hi. I have been using Updraft Plus as my primary backup tool for many years. Works reliably. But there is one problem that I didn’t realize for a long time. When restoring from a copy, Updraft doesn’t delete what was created. What I specially mean is the database (but folders too). If I made backup and then installed a plug-in which created new tables in the database, then I restored the copy, these new tables still remains in DB! Looks like Updraft restores what was in the copy to its previous state, but does not delete or modify what was not in the copy before, leaving in this case garbage in the database. Is there any method to restore the total database to the state in which backup actually created? Thank you!

    Hi,

UpdraftPlus actually overwrite everything when restoring on an existing site. If you want a clean install then you can delete your existing site, install fresh WP site and restore your backup.

    Thanks,

Thank you for the info. But it seems we don’t understand each other. UP doesn’t restore everything as you suggest. It only restores what was at the time the copy was made. That is, if we had tables A, B and C in DB at the moment of making backup, and after the backup was made, we add D table, restoring the copy overwrites tables A, B and C. Table D should be deleted, because it appeared after the backup was made. This is how restoring a copy should work. And that’s not how it works here. Table D remains as it was. If you don’t believe me, check the above scenario. Make it on your own.

Whereas, restoring a clean installation every time I want to roll back the changes to the last backup requires a lot of work. Best idea is get to PhpMyAdmin, drop tables and add them again. Then I use other techniques than UP.

    Hi,

You are correct, table D is left as a failsafe .

With Premium versions of the plugin, you can backup and restore selected tables.
