• Help!

I’m being driven batty by comment spam. Here’s my blog: https://www.thepublicprofessor.com/

In my settings I’ve listed several sites and various words in my “comment blacklist” section that keep showing up – by the dozens. (Club Penguin anyone?) I also have it set so that any comment with a link should go into a moderation queue, also to no avail.

How are these buggers thwarting my settings? How can I lock them out? I’m a WordPress novice and any advice is much appreciated.

    Thank you!
    Rae

I’d also suggest the SI Captcha Anti-Spam plugin. It puts a little captcha box next to the comment box which you have to fill in before you can post, which disappears if you’re logged in. You can also make it so you have to fill one in when you register to prevent bots from just making accounts.

    Eno,
Wow, I’m having the same problems! I had 33 emails today telling me about my spam….these guys are asking me why their comments aren’t showing up. It’s all crazy. I’m going to try your suggestions T-p

Thanks all! I’ve activated the Askimet plug in. Not quite sure what it’s going to do, but hopefully it will eradicate these pesky penguins.

    Best,
