Beautiful plugin, just missing one essential feature

  • I love Translatepress. It’s the easiest, best understandable plugin I’ve found so far. Alas it misses one feature that I need: switching the default language and using content in the new default language as the ‘source’ content. My website’s currently in Dutch and I will be switching to English this year, making Dutch the secondary languages. For future translations, I want English to be the default language from which all content and posts, old and new are to be translated.

    Very friendly and understanding support staff who made absolultely no fuss in refunding me the subscription amount after I canceled within the ‘No risk, money back’ period.

    If you’re not in need of what I’m in need of, then Translatepress is a fantastic plugin. I’m going to start using WPML, and I’m sure that will be a good one too ??.

    Being a directional string-based plugin, changing the source language will invalidate the translations. You can change the first shown language (not the default language in which the content is written in) by simply going to TranslatePress Settings -> Enable Subdirectory for Default Language, then reorder the languages by drag and drop. There is documentation on our website regarding this topic. If you actually change the default language (something that’s perfectly fine on a brand new site without content), you’ll need to change all the content you’ve written to the new language and then translate again all the information. There is no proper way to automate this as translations are directional.
