• How do I access the text from my old blog posts in a site that I no longer have up and running? I’m wanting to use this text from my old posts, and add it to new posts on my new site.

I did a search on this subject and someone mentions to go into the hosting cpanel and to access MySQL. Well, I did this, but still have no idea on how to access the post text. That’s all I want to do. I don’t want to import anything, just access the post text so I can copy and paste it. Not sure why this is so hard to figure out, it doesn’t seem like it should be. Thanks for any help.

  • Hi needforname,

This is easy to do but I included a few images just in case.

    1. Login to phpMyAdmin and select the database. In the next screen you will see the image linked here. This is your database tables. Click the “browse” button in the wp_posts table as the image illustrates.

    2. Once you do that you will arrive at another screen as shown in the image linked here. This is a list of your posts. Click the “pencil” icon for whatever post you want to access as illustrated by the image I linked.

    3. After clicking the “pencil” icon you will see yet another screen as shown in the image linked here. This is where you can find the content of the particular post.

    Copy & paste away. ??

Len, thank you so much. I think where I was having trouble is I was going in the wrong sql option in my cpanel. Hostgator has a couple of options. Thanks again for you time. Have a great day.

    You’re quite welcome. Good luck.

I have a similar question, if you don’t mind ??

I created my first wordpress site on my local machine, and then uploaded all the files. Everything came out good, EXCEPT, what’s showing as the posts and pages are what you see on a “start up” wordpress page.. (i.e. “Hello World”). In other words, the posts and pages that I created are not showing up on the server. I know they are out there somewhere, I just need to know where, and how to get them where they need to be.

    Can anyone offer some advice?
    Thanks!

I’m only familiar with creating posts directly through the wordpress system, which automatically creates and categorizes the necessary files directly to your server site folder. Why did you create your site on your local machine and then try uploading? Sorry I’m not any help, I just don’t understand the workflow and wanted to make sure you did.
